Hi everyone,

I have been lurking and learning from all of you. And I think I may have the right stone for my ering. Before I buy I would appreciate opinions:

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 1.54
Cut: Premium
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 58.9%
Table: 57%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Very thin to medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.63*7.66*4.46

Is this a good stone and is $7500 a good price?

Thank you.

I''d say it''s a fair price although i''m not keen on getting both an ''I'' color AND an SI2 unless it was a nice SI2. pushing it a little...
But one nice thing about the stone is that it''s relatively "spready" with the lower depth of 58.9 so it''ll actually look a little larger than a 1 1/2 , which is nice

How could the cut be premium though if the polish is Good? I thought GIA only gives an excellent cut grade if both the polish & sym are VG or higher..?

Its eye clean and white according to the jeweler. But I agree that I might be pushing it with an I and a SI2.

with these sorts of things it depends on the girl. does she want something that''ll look BIG to people looking from afar or does she want something that she can stare at all the time and scrutinize :-) did the jeweler show you the SI2 where it is so you can know better what your girlfriend can expect to find if she analyzes? ask him if he doesn''t mind.

I''d really be concerned about a very thin girdle, too. And it is good to look for very good polish and symmetry or better. That stone is not GIA excellent. The term premium cut would be below excellent, I believe.

does very thin girdle really bother you? even though it''s not Extremely Thin... what are your concerns?

I haven''t seen the stone, its from James Allen online. From what I read on PS they are reputable, and the jewler advised me aganist a few more expensive stones before this one. The jeweler said that the girdle wouldn''t be a problem, perhaps because of the 6 prong setting? He said he looked at it while I was on hold. I made it clear that if the stone didn''t look eyeclean and sparkle, I wouldn''t hesitate to sent it back...(I said it in a nice way) The spread is great, which is one reason why I picked it. Should I worry?

I wouldn''t worry about ''pushing it'' with an I and SI2. Tiffany'' uses I stones also, although they do not use SI stones. As long as they can confirm it is eye clean...
Is it on James Allen''s webpage? I cannot find it to get more details. It is hard to tell you much about the stone without crown and pavillion angles. Ask them to put it in the sarin if you do not already have the angles.

I also would be worried about the ''very thin'' - risk of chipping/breaking. thin okay, vt would make me worry.

Well, if you search for 1.54 I SI2 stones on the search engine on the front page here, you''ll see that this same stone pops up with all of the vendors who have access to it. The price ranges from $6919 (Abazias) to $7276 (Jewelry Zone) with James Allen listing a price of $7135, so the price you''re paying is about 5% over what it''s listed for here. ??? Was $7500 listed on the James Allen site?

I wouldn''t worry about I or eye-clean SI2, but I would wonder about when James Allen saw it since most in-house stones aren''t listed on several sites. I''d also like to see the crown and pavilion angles, assuming they''re available on the GIA cert.

phoenixgirl, that''s so true!! i never realized someone could do that... WOW that''ll really blow the lid off of everything if this trend continues.. amazing!!

that being the case what i would do is tell James Allen that you''ve seen the same stone listed elsewhere for less and ask if they''re willing to match it.

$7500 was probably the total cost with the mounting, no? I doubt they would charge you more than what they have listed for on their website...

Yes, it was with the setting. And its 5% off because of wire transfer and some October special. But that is a bit freaky to see the stone sold by so many vendors. AT DIFFERENT PRICES! I guess I''ll have to be really careful...Thank you all so much.
