I have found a private jeweler who has been in business for almost 50 years ( he says 25 of those years as a diamond buyer for zales and I think also tiffany''s) He was nice enough to give me an education on diamonds. With a 1,000 refundable deposit he will search for my perfect diamond which he will guarantee will "perform well"--classII Gia stds for crown, pavillion, total depth etc. I asked him to find 1.70-1.80 emerald cut diamond VS2 or better H or better. He expects the price to be around 10,000- 12,000 dor the diamond. What do you think? Is it worth a shot or a waste of time

Everything sounds okay, but I don't really understand the $1000 deposit, when a multitude of companies will perform this same service for you without a deposit.

Um, as Richard said, there are many jewelers who would help you for free. Why commit yourself with a huge deposit?

No way would I do this.....it commits you to either buying a stone from him or losing the $1000 deposit.

Why would you want to do that when you could email nearly any vendor here with your specs and get the same thing without the $1000 risk?

The only thing I can figure on it......this guy has spent time looking for diamonds for people who ultimately weren't serious about buying, or he's lost the sale after an extensive search. His prerogative to do business this way, but he wouldn't be the right choice for me.

Rocky did say the $1,000 was refundable. It could be this is the jeweler's way of judging whether a customer is serious. Maybe the jeweler has performed this service for others who never returned to view the diamonds. Anyone just "looking" would not consider forking over $1,000 (refundable or not), but someone seriously contemplating a purchse probably would. If the stones are not what you are looking for, you can get a refund and move on. At least you've been able to view the stones in person.

I think you should check the web and see how the prices compare ,there are great deals out there on similar/same stones , with 100% money back guarantee in most cases.

shop and compare and get the best deal for $$$$$$

good luck
