Hey Exports and Enthusiasts,

Can someone please tell me if the following is a good purchase?

- Princess Cut Square Modified Brilliant
- 7.62 x 7.59 x 5.53
- 2.51 carat
- "G" Grade
- VS1 Clarity
- Pollish = Excellent
- Symmetry = Very Good
- Fluorescence = None
- Table = 73%
- Depth = 72.8%
- Thin to Medium Girdle

Shop wants to sell me for approx USD$28,600

This will form part of an engagement ring for my Princess (in a setting similar to the Tiffany Grace ring).

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Hard to say without knowing a few more things:

1. What kind of certificate does the stone have?
2. Do you have any images? ASET image? Have you seen it in person?
3. How flexible are you on specs?

A few I found (not the exact same specs):
2.29 I VS1 for $15k: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1493301.asp
2.03 ACA H VS1 for $22k: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2790072.htm
2.03 G VS2 for $17k: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9120/

Jeremy: Ditto rubybeth re the three questions. The first question - does it have a certificate and if so, which lab certified the stone - is and important first step. Without that information you don't know to compare your stone against, since an AGI-rated "G" can be very different from an EGL-rated "G". Once you have that information, you can use Pricescope's search tool, or the search tools provided by many of the PS vendors, to find out what other stones of that size are going for.

You have a very nice budget to play with - if you haven't already done so, you might want to spend a bit of time in the "Knowledge" section so you can be sure to end up with the best possible ring for your money.

Thanks Ruby and VR.

1. GIA Cert - GIA-6135289263
2. Have not seen any images. The diamond is on country and wouldn't be too difficult to call in and examine if I want to move onto the next steps.
3. Flexible with most specs, except I'm really looking for between 2.5-2.6 carats and 7.5mm squared (or as close to being square as possible). Flexible with the other attributes.

Yes, nice budget to play with but this seems the norm/average price when looking at many of the other web sites selling loose diamonds, no?

Many thanks for your responses, learning more each and every day :-)

Thanks,
Jeremy

With a princess, you really need to be able to see it somehow, whether that's photos, ASET, video, or buying it and viewing it with own eyes.

What about this 3 carat F SI2 for $25k? http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1493302.asp (can ask how 'eye clean' it is'--I can see some inclusions in the upper left corner, but in actual size they may not be noticeable since they look pretty white)

Hi Beth - I asked. The 3ct is not eye clean at all.
