Dear all,

I would like to have your thoughts on a 0.46 ct diamond.
  • Would you see a big size difference between a 0.46 ct and 0.5 ct on a solitaire ring?
How would you rate this diamond? Good quality and reasonably price?

Appreciate your comments! Thank you.

The 34.5 degree crown angle is an excellent offset for the 41.0 degree pavilion angle, the diamond should exhibit a high volume of light return with a virtual balance of brilliance and dispersion. However the proportions of the diamond are only the beginning of the puzzle, you should also be taking into account the optical symmetry of the diamond, which can only be judged through various reflector scopes, such as ASET, Ideal Scope, Hearts and Arrows viewer, etc., as this will also have an effect upon visual performance.

You're not likely to see much of a visible difference between a 0.46 and 0.50 carat round brilliant cut diamond when mounted, say from the distance that spans across the dinner table, provided that they are both cut essentially the same in terms of proportions. The odds are that you would see a slight difference in size if you were comparing the two diamonds, set side-by-side in a diamond sorting tray, separated by a distance of a quarter inch or so, if you were peering at them from a distance of 9 - 12 inches.
