Hi all,

I came across the following diamond:
https://www.wherethediamondsare.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.diamond&pid=35876&cyo=0#

GIA report:
https://myapps.gia.edu/ReportCheckPortal/getReportData.do?&reportno=1169527184&weight=1.20#

So, from that I have looked up, it looks to be an excellent value. I did look at it in person. Now I am no diamond expert and honestly, didn't have the best set up to compare it to other diamonds or put it under different lighting, but the inclusions we essentially invisible from the top and could only be seen from underneath at one angle.
I am thinking once it is on a ring, it will be impossible to tell.

Is there anything else I should be looking for? The low price makes me worried (i am naturally suspicious). As noted in the GIA report, there is a very small nick on the edge and it is only visible with a loupe. Could this be a "used" diamond and that is why it is cheaper? That is not an issue with me, but I am trying to figure out why it is cheaper. The sales lady wasn't able to give me a clear answer. She just chalked it up to the owner bought it for cheaper than other similar stones, so they sell it cheaper....

So what do you think? Good deal or low priced for a reason?

The proportions aren't very good - it gets a 5.0 on the HCA. The HCA, while not perfect, is a pretty decent indicator of the *potential* for a diamond to have great visual performance, and this diamond doesn't seem to have that, which is probably why the price is so low. But if you've seen it in person and you're happy with it, then go for it. However I'd suggest finding a better cut diamond.

One thing you'll learn is that there are no "deals" in the diamond business. You get what you pay for.
In this case, it's a poorly cut stone. GIA Excellent has very broad cut specs and this is a typical steep/deep cut that still makes the grade.
It will likely have poor light return and isn't worth any further consideration.

So, to me it looked good; but i wasn't able to directly compare it against one with a known better HCA score. All i had to go on while I was there was the GIA cut score.

Given that it is still rated GIA EX I am inclined to think that at least whoever rated it thought it was good. But again, I am no expert in this. With the specs the way they are (assuming I am fine with it), is this still a good value at the price listed? Is there anything else i should be concerned with other than it being too deep?

Do you know how much I may have to pay for something similar with a better cut? If you have any recommendations, i am definitely open to options.

I am assuming having it re-cut shallower would be a bad idea...

Yep, a very bad idea. The stone could shatter on the wheel and you'd be left with nothing for your $$$.

Tell us your budget, and what you want.

up to 7k for the stone; round brilliant cut and 1.2 carat would be great. If I can keep it down to 6k, that would be excellent.

Also, I am in the Northern VA/ DC area and would rather see something in person than just trust online.

You're going to have a very hard time beating this price locally, plus you save takes. This stone will be gorgeous.

And so will this one.

Those look good, but I am concerned about the J color. I would be willing to go a little smaller if I could keep it around H.

For some reason, I am very sensitive to color in the diamond

So i just looked up some here on pricescope. How does this diamond have a worse GIA cut rating, but better HCA?

On a similar note; this is listed as 'H&A" and is really cheap (comparatively):

Granted it is EGL certified....so I am not sure who decides it is a hearts and arrows diamond
