Gold Kt/ Plat Inscription??

I was just wondering--a jeweler told me that all gold jewelry and platinum have to be inscribed with what they are somewhere on the jewelry. What would they say? PLAT for platinum, and 14k, 18k, 10k, etc?...and what are the other ways to inscribe what they are (I thought there was a European conversion that is used as well). Thanks!

Not all pieces, will be marked, especially high-end and custom pieces.

Most all will be, and it varies by country. You are correct as to the US markings. The European markings you ask about give x/1000th fineness; .585(14k) , .750 (18k), etc.
