What is the lowest color can I can go with a one caret round set in gold gold?

Also what is the lowest clarity I can go with an 000 ideal round in order that I cant see any inclusions with the naked eye.

An AGS 000 is a diamond that has ideal proportions, ideal symmetry and ideal polish, it also scores a D in color and is flawless in clarity.

So technicaly anything below flawless would not qualify your diamond to be a AGS triple zero.
To answer your question, It would depend on how well your sight is.
Most people think that SI and above is eye clean but only if the inclusions are in an inconspicuous locasion within the crystal.

Thank you, I guess I thought a 000 was an AGS ideal cut with ideal polish and symatry and proportions.

I guess my question is can I buy a vs2 from blue nile sight unseen and trust its eye clean?

ok; now I am confused. the AGS report on the diamond I am looking at lists 000 and then H and then vs1; its 1.056 size and lists for $6600.

Kyran - and so we were all taught. However, this changed in January ''05. AGS is now allowing cut proportions alone to determine what they term a triple zero.

I received these comments in a private communication from AGS:

"Technically an AGS triple zero was a diamond with a 0 grade in cut (Ideal), 0 in clarity (IF or Flawless) and 0 in Color (D). AGS 000. However, sellers (internet sellers at first) started calling diamonds with the 0 in cut triple zeros because proportions, polish & symmetry all had to be 0 to get the cut grade AGS 0. AGS tried to address this , but it has entered the modern lexicon. It became an “if you can’t beat them, join them” thing."

More info here.

Frank,

A well cut diamond may face up ''whiter'' than similarly graded stones with average cut due to optimized light return - rounds are color-graded from the side.

The clarity depends on the stone. If it''s graded appropriately you should not be able to see any inclusions looking down on the crown with VS2 or higher. There are also SI1 and SI2 diamonds that can appear eye-clean depending on the diamond itself and your definition of what constitutes eye-clean - since there is no official standard.

Here is a recent thread on different defs of eye-clean.

Oh ok,
Sorry Frank, I didn''t meen to confuse you.
It seems that I am learning something new everyday here on Pricescope.
Thanks for clarifying John

Based on my reading of the thread on eye-clean it looks like a VS2 would be a safe bet on an internet purchase for eye clean (blue nile). If I found a AGSL 000 (new defintion) with a VS2 rating, what color would be the lowest I could go and set in gold and not see any yellow? frank

If you don''t want any yellow from the side view, you probably should stop at G or H. If you mean faces up white, maybe I or even J in a white head with yellow band. Depends on how color sensitive you are, how well cut the diamond, and individual characteristics of that diamond. I''ve seem some L/M that looked only very slightly tinted even from the side, and I''ve seen some GIA I that look gray or yellow.

Not the greatest apples-to-apples comparison since cuts and settings are different. But here's I color VS1 Old European Cut in WG on left and G VVS1 modern round in WG head / YG band on right. Both face up equally white, but you can see I stone is showing some tint when viewed from an angle. It would face up very white if set in white prongs on YG band. The G is equally white viewed from the side or bottom. Hope this helps since you sound like you need a fast answer.

Thank you, I am looking to purchase June 1, 2005 over the net. I think I will get a VS2 H color, AGSL 000(new) 1 caret from blue nile set in a .5 caret channel settting with matching band. Does this sound reasonable?
