So I''ve been hearing conflicting reports of the shutdowns here at work. There is a POSSIBILITY that my department won''t be shut down for 3 weeks in December. SO... I didn''t cancel the request for GOG to get the Speyer Setting in on Memo. I definitely won''t be able to get it in August... but, I may be able to get it by the end of the year.

SO... without further ado... here is the pic that the INCREDIBLE, WONDERFUL, FABULOUS Marie, at GOG, who went COMPLETELY out of her way to help me sent. (she sent me three, but I think this one captures it best)

Marie put in a one carat asscher into the size 6 setting so that I would get a VERY VERY accurate impression of what my diamond would look like.

I''ve already asked for a side shot... and if there is anything that can be done about those prongs (shudder).... BUT beyond that... what do you guys think????

Looks pretty good.

Can those prongs be shaved down a little? I like that they are diagonal and match the clipped corners of the asscher.

Looks very nice, but I agree about the prongs... they detract from the center stone. What kind of prongs were you leaning towards? I am a fan of the split prongs, but I know not everyone likes em...

I want REALLY small delicate prongs like this:

Except for the ginormous prongs.

but I''m sure there''s a way to alter those and Marie will certainly figure it out.

I will definitely keep watching for more pics and updates

Okay... I''m getting "very nice" as comments.

Please be 100% honest. No saving my feelings or anything.

You can tell me you are underwelmend or that you hate it... that you think that I can do better. Whatever.

Please feel free to be honest.

Ditto!

And I would have suggested the same thing for the prongs, as I feel the same way that you do about them.

But Gypsy''s ''noring us.

First impressions

1) The ring scales down very nicely -- looks AWESOME

2) Don''t think the prongs would be a problem -- shaved etc they''ll probably clasp & flatter the asscher nicely

3) DEF need more pictures -- especially whole hand pictures BECAUSE

4) I actually think this setting is QUITE similar to the shape & scale & affect of the one you already OWN. Not sure if it''s going to give you a "different enough" feeling for all the thought & $$ you''ll be putting into it. Does that make sense?

5) I love it -- I just don''t know if it''s going to accomplish what you hope it will

ETA: have you given any recent thought to a three stone setting for maximum finger coverage & bling? Abandoned halos entirely? Given up on the rock on a teensy thin band look? (ala Ritani??)

How am I ignoring you all???

33.gif

I hate the prongs. LOL. I want little prongs like the ones I posted above. And I''ve emailed Marie about changing those bulky prong things. LOL.

Honestly I think the really delicate prongs could look odd with that setting. The whole ring is kind of solid looking, and I think super delicate prongs would look out of place. However the current prongs DO really distract me when I look at them. Is there any way you would do a slightly thicker version of the prongs you like?

Overall, though, I like the ring a lot, and I''m definitely not an Asscher person. I love the way the sidestones accent the center stone, and I don''t think I''ve ever really seen good pictures of an Asscher that wasn''t a solitaire.

Basically, I think you have to be true to the look of the setting when you adjust the prongs so that they don''t remain a distraction. Otherwise, I think you''ve got a GREAT ring.

Gypsy, it shouldn't matter if ALL of us hated it, if YOU love it, that realy is all that matters!

Now, if you really want my absolute honest opinion, I "think" I would like it better if the sides were narrower. See how the visual looks of the pic you posted? The thinner band just seems to make the Asscher stand out more (instead of taking away, which I feel these sides are doing), and I personally like that. But, that's jus me.

Gypsy,
I really love this setting and type of prongs (as long as they can be made a bit thinner). I''m being very honest. I guess you are ignoring us because we insist that
1. This style prongs really accentuates the clipped corners of the asscher
2. This style prongs really goes well/flows with the design of the ring

BUT you keep on wanting to change the prongs.

The ring is really nice, but doesn''t make the stone pop at all. It''s really all about the SETTING with this ring, which isn''t necessarily a bad thing, but a distinct look.

I do hate the prongs. I think I would actually like the same shape, but just much daintier.

I could also do flat prongs shaved down. to preserved the shape. Would be cheaper than getting the little prongs I like, probably.

The ring does scale down really well. I agree.

I didn''t even think of the WHOLE hand shots. You are right. Wll ask.

4) is what I''m afraid of. It looked SO different in the sample pic, but now it''s worrying me. Does it look a little young??

5) same. LOVE IT. don''t know if it satisfy me though.

Three stones? This is the closest thing I can''t afford a halo setting like I want with platinum. They are like... $800 over buget. It would have to be custom and all the qoutes I''ve gotten have at the same price. As for the ritani thin band. Funny you mentioned that because just NOW I was wondering if that''s the solution. Legato or Ritani... not sure. Any one got a 6 x 6 rock in one of these?

I tried to demonstrate my point with this comparison ... but SOB I''m no Irina. MISS HER!!!!!

LMAO. Yes, I''m sure GOG would be happy to thin them so that they preserve the shape of the existing prongs. BUT I don''t normally like that look.

Ellen honey: I know it''s ultimately my decision, but I don''t go "

You''re comments always help me decide what I REALLY think.

Gypsy, you said some key things in this last post. You said, "I can''t afford a halo setting like I want..." So you know what I say....then do NOT settle for less than you want! $800 is nothing in the overall scheme of things. Just wait and get exactly what you want when you can afford it. A halo will do wonders for the size of your stone. If a diamond upgrade is not in your future, then I''d certainly wait and get the setting you really want. I think it is crazy to settle for something expensive that you are not sure about. I love some Sheldon Speyer settings, but I did not have a "wow" feeling seeing the 1 ct. asscher in this setting, to be very honest. I do like it, though.

HA HA!! Yeah! The girl whose picture you just posted above with the delicate prongs! That''s a 6x6mm asscher in a micropave setting!!
3.gif

I''ve also been really smitten with how much BLING Feb2003 got by adding .25 stones on either side of her 1.06 carat princess. Have to find her thread again but it was a new truffle? trellis?? custom whiteflash ... GORGEOUS!!!! I woke up dreaming of three stones today (HA!) And I can totally picture one with yours Gyp.

Yeah. DS I hear you. I do. I don''t have the wow feeling either. At all, honestly. And I think you are right about something expensive, and not loving it.

Deco... you know I''m always looking for suggestions-- if you see anything you love feel free to show me. I actually love the swoopy part of your setting with the tapered baguettes... it reminds me the vera wang setting the the E/W EC that has all baguettes around. I really love that setting but it''s just way to $$$. As for thin pave bands -- I don''t love the side of the ritani, although I like it much better that the legato pave which to me looks like someone sodered a head on a pave band.

Here''s a whole hand shot of the 6.44 x 6.44 asscher in the super thin GOG setting. For reference.

6point44mmasscher.jpg

I love that setting Gypsy. What did they say about shaving down the prongs?? I agree to me they are heavy and bulky. If they can be shaved down, and refined, you''ve got a perfect setting.

Gypsy, if the halo or whatever is what you really want, don''t settle for anything else. Scrimp, save and starve until you have enough for the setting of your dreams, otherwise you''ll just be throwing money at another setting that you don''t love and that $$$ could be put towards what you really want.

I hope you heed this advice, Gypsy. My ring is in a wg temp setting now because I still do not know what I want for a permanent setting. And I am not going to spend thousands on another one that I am not sure about. I''ve wasted enough money on jewelry that was not perfect enough already!!!

Gypsy: I like the setting, although I have a hard time picturing it with different prongs...I have no imagination whatsoever. Although I don''t think it gives the center stone the full attention. Personally, for an asscher I would wait it out for a halo setting if that was your favorite. Halo''s give A LOT more bling effect (I believe you were suffering from a bit of DSS???)

Good luck with your decision!

triple ditto
I hate the looks of the setting in discussion, it takes away from the center stone rather than adding too it.

I did not like the virtual picture of that setting much. But in person - I really, REALLY like it. Only thing I would change is the clunky prongs.
