I am looking at a Diamond and wanted to get some advice on the measurement and proportions:
Is the following good proportions?
Radiant

Weight: 1.57
7.01 x 6.50 x 4.20
Depth: 64%
Table: 66%
Girdle: Thick to Very Thick

Also, a thick to very thick girdle, is this not a good proportion?

Thank you,Teri

There are pros and cons to a tk-vtk girdle. One good thing is you don't have to worry about chips the same way as with a thin girdle, but the really bad thing is your stone won't show it's weight because so much will be in the girdle. However, I like that there is not much variation in the girdle. Now, I'm not sure about radiant cuts, but with princess cut stones you want to try and keep the table below the depth. At any rate, what does the girdle rate on http://www.gemappraisers.com?

They Graded the girdle 3A (US Domestic Average cut). I don't have the crown height, is it possible to figure that out with the dimensions I have?

Unfortunately, it's not. Is this stone GIA certified? If so, see if the vendor can get a sarin report on the stone.

Yes. What is a sarin report?

I diamond with a very thick girdle is hiding extra weight around the middle which doesn't do anything for the appearance of the stone. You end up paying for the weight but you can't see it.

If you look at the example I provided, there's a Sarin Report attached. Basically, it's an analysis that will provide all of the missing angles and %s for your stone. From the info provided on the report, people are better able to judge the quality of your stone.
