I have a few months before her birthday but wanted to start thinking about what to get her...

The thought of jewelry crossed my mind but my budget is tiny ($150-$250) - which of course I could find something at like Kay Jewelers but then I thought the PS ladies would cringe if I said that! haha So I'm hoping you can give me some guidance/ideas as to whether jewelry is even a good idea given such a small budget. And if so, where could I get the best quality for the money (earrings? a necklace?)

The other thing I thought was money for her to do as she wants...but this is my least favorite only because I want something that stays with her...

I just can't think of what else might be nice...

Any ideas?

I would do a Helen Ficalora initial charm ($155) with your local jewelry store cable chain ($$?). HF chains are over priced. I love them and have given them as gifts. Those people wear theirs every day.

For your daughter?

If it is your daughter, I think a cute but classic piece of jewelry could be great. Blue Nile has a whole section for gifts under $100 so that might be worth browsing.

Another neat idea might be a piece of art. I've given framed blessings in past and they seem to be enjoyed. You can find some great art that they will enjoy now but be classic and grown up enough to hang in their own home one day.

Just wanted to add that she doesn't have a great website but has tons of photos on Instagram an FB!

I know it's a bit cliche, but at 16, I'm pretty sure I would've felt super special to receive a Tiffany necklace! Many of their Sterling Silver necklaces (I tend to favor the Elsa Peretti and Paloma Picasso lines) are in your price range and I would think perfectly dainty and lovely for a 16 year old girl. Like I said...totally cliche...but I would think almost guaranteed to be successful, assuming she shares your love of jewelry!

I can't believe I left that out!

My niece...(also my goddaughter)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! Excited to have some ideas, thank you!

Here are some things that caught my eye...

Any opinions/thoughts?

My niece is very petite, if that matters...

http://www.bluenile.com/mini-sapphire-circle-pendant-14k-white-gold_43190

http://www.bluenile.com/london-blue-topaz-solitaire-necklace-14k-yellow-gold_43211

http://www.bluenile.com/mini-garnet-heart-pendant-14k-rose-gold_47410

And some from Tiffany...which I do tend to think the Tiffany "brand" will put the gift over the top probably for her...since it's a recognizable name even at that age.

I looked at the Peretti and Picasso collections only so far...loved the Peretti more than the Picasso at least in that price range.

She has several different kinds of these in different colors/stones...like them all...

I highly recommend James Avery for any gifts that you'd get her. They call that store the Tiffany of Texas and it has some AMAZING high quality pieces for a fair price.

http://www.jamesavery.com/

They have a ton of options-you can get a very nice charm bracelet-necklaces-bracelets-earrings/etc.

They come in a very beautiful gift box/pouch and the quality is great. Retains its value too similar to Tiffany-check on ebay. If you want you can get her a bracelet there and they will polish it up at no cost-they also put their own charms on at no cost.

Check them out-I bet you'll find a few things in your budget!

How about a nice custom/handmade piece of jewelry from Etsy?

BTW Hatha I did like those letter necklaces...very very cool...I'm just thinking for a Sweet 16 I want "dainty" instead of cool. I WILL keep them in mind for another occasion though.

Vintage - thank you! will check it out.

Momhappy - I think looking on Etsy would be so time consuming (hope that doesn't sound terrible!) Every time I look for anything on Etsy I end up exhausted and click away. :/ But of course thanks for the suggestion mom! :D

I thought of pearls...and I know how much I appreciated my first pearl necklace from my parents - I wore it on countless interviews and special occasions.

But for some reason I don't see my niece appreciating it right now. Maybe when she's a little older...

But thank you!

A bit over budget but this is cute!

Wow, thanks Vintage! I liked the idea of the "16" pendant...all very cute.

VRBeauty - hmmmm...I assumed at that age Tiffany would be as well known as Coach but maybe I'm wrong...

Pinto - thanks! Some cute things, many out of my budget, but will look again.

I think I'm heavily leaning toward the first choices I posted above, from Blue Nile and Tiffany...

Anybody have any advice/opinion on those? ::)

You've received many wonderful suggestions. Does your niece have a Pinterest page? I'm only asking because my nieces have one and I always check it out to see what pieces they have in their accessory/jewelry page. I have purchased things they have listed and they are thrilled. It's so much fun to watch these faces light up when they get something they love. Another suggestion is a Michael Kors watch. My nieces around the same age love them.

I wish she had a Pinterest page, Calliecake! But she doesn't...hardly posts on FB, either...

I did think about a MK watch for the same reason...so that's on the back of my mind...as an alternative...although I think it may be a more common gift meaning that it's likely someone else (grandparents etc) may think of it.

So I'm leaning more towards jewelry...now I just have to find the right piece...would be nice to know if she "knows" about Tiffany. That would probably seal the deal for me.

Cj2008,

Another idea is the Tiffany Paloma's Venezia Goldoni Quadruplo sterling silver ring. Sorry I'm not sure how to post the link. It's located on the Tiffany website. I have one and my niece is always ask me if I'm tired of it yet. They both want this one badly to wear on their middle finger.

Sorry if I'm being a pest. I just keep thinking of things I know they love and hope they will be of some help to you.

i have seen beautiful delicate pendants with a drop pearl with a blue sapphire or blue topaz gem near the bale. I love the blue and white together and she can wear it on special occasions and holidays. Check out Pearl Paradise.

Thanks, Zoe - I like the open heart, I could see it being "her"...the bean design not sure...and I think it's $300. I also think it would make more of an impression on her if there's some kind of sparkly :rodent:

Callie - you're not being a pest! I appreciate the ideas! If it were not already for the help I got here, I would not have thought of Blue Nile, or Tiffany's (maybe eventually I would have, but I hadn't yet...) Plus I got some other great ideas for future occasions!

Thanks, Lambskin, I will!

On the other hand, do you guys LIKE this one? Would this one be OK? (I like it - and if you guys thought it was OK / saw no real obvious reason to NOT get it, I'd probably go with it! I'm petrified of buying anything jewelry without the PS seal of approval that I'm not getting something obviously horrible / overpriced  )

It's .28 inches in height and .32 inches in width...

Cj, I love this necklace. She could wear it everyday and even layer other necklaces with it.

I personally don't. But I'm a girly girl and don't really like dark/black looking stones. Just asked my two much younger sisters and they both don't like it either.

I see what you're saying...even though I do think she may like the black, black isn't that "dainty" nor is it sparkly actually...

That necklace comes in different color stones...do you / your sisters like this one?

Thanks for weighing in Callie (I like it too! But I'm thinking now that Hatha pointed out I'd be safer with something a little more feminine / sparkly - it will feel more sweet 16ish that way!)

Love the pretty detail one. Gorgeous. It's just a little bit over my budget and I wonder if it may be too large for her (she's very petite).

Thanks though I had not seen those.

I think I'm going to get that aquamarine one. DH liked it too so I think I can feel good about it and not feel like I have t keep looking for something different.

Thanks all.
