I am getting a diamond from her grandma that I am essentially unsure of everything about. it is from her engagement ring and they are pretty high rollers (in there small town) now so I am assuming it is close to a karat like .85 or .75 if not actually a karat. So anyways I need to purchase a setting. I have no idea where to go. I live in Minnesota and am going to be in the twin cities area tomorrow throughout the day. I have heard to stay away from mall stores and stuff like that. I was wondering if someone could give the name of a good dealer that has good prices and that I am not gonna get ripped off by. I want to feel confident in my decision and I do not feel confident because I was going to go to Jared's or Shane Co. just because they sounded better than something like Hoff, but then I read they were no good either. But in all honesty I have read so much stuff I just need to know where to go. please help me out. also any advice for particular stores you choose about bartering or anything would be awesome. I always want to make sure I am getting a good deal. Thank you for any time you spend helping me.

sorry ND is a little farther away than I would want to travel. I am hoping for Twin Cities area. Thanks for the other tips though I will try to use them.

Hello Squishymax, love the username! I am in minnesota and bought my setting from Knox jewelers in uptown, very nice guys and moderately priced, you might want to check with them about setting your stone though, I have heard some on here say they will not set your own stone but they set my family stone so I am not sure if the policy has changed or if it depends on the stone? Good luck in your search!

Good rec Decogirl...

If Knox Jewelers is in your neck of the woods, I second them...I have not personally used them but we have heard good
things about them on PS. They also have beautiful settings. How much were you planning on spending on the setting?
I have not heard of them not setting stones that were not theres. The ones I have heard of were stones owned by
the customer. Could be a new thing and you probably want to contact and verify before you make the drive.

Continental Diamond is in Minnesota, I believe in the Twin Cities area. http://www.continentaldiamond.com/ They are an established full-service jeweler. Several people on this forum have worked with them.

Innsbruck Jewelers is a privately owned jeweler in New Brighton in the Twin Cities. They are near Hwy 35 W and 694.

My family has been working with Steve and Margaret for over 30 years and never go anywhere else. They will set your family stone for you. They have an amazing selection of settings and bench jewelers who take enormous pride in their work. You will NOT be disappointed!

ETA: I forgot to say that they are very reasonably priced. Just tell them that Julie and Joe sent you... Their website is:

Another vote for Knox Jewelers!

guys! I researched and Knox doesn't do settings for stones that aren't theirs? so I found a post from Minnesota bride magazine that says the best 3 jewelery shops in Minnesota are Wedding Day Diamonds, Arthur’s Jewelers, and Continental Diamond. And continental diamond won. so can anybody vouch for any of these 3 (somebody already has for Continental diamond). I went to Shane co and jareds today. Jareds was not good, Shane co seemed to have decent prices and I found a setting I liked. but I have heard some sketchy things about them. they have a free life time warranty that comes with the ring (unlike jareds) but the setting fee is a little over 100 bucks! is that alot or am I just cheap. I decided to put off my purchase till next week. In the meantime I want to gather as much information as I can and make an informed decision of confidence! Thank you everyone for helping with this big moment in my life.

Continental Diamonds carry Infinity Diamonds and that puts them is a elite category as far as jewelers go. Worth taking a look at if they are close to you.

I have heard of Wedding Day but for some reason, it sounds like a "chain" store to me but I could be wrong. I have been in Arthur's and they do have a large selection of settings but I do not know if they will set family stones. You should probably call and ask before you head out. I can't speak to Continental as I have never been there and really don't know anything about them.

Best wishes with whatever you decide. The care and attention you are putting into this ring guarantees it is being given in love and will be received the same way.
