Gemprint services are no longer available? I was told this by one of the vendors but can't find any info. I can no longer get one done?

For what it''s worth, I was told this by a B&M vendor as well. He said he has a Gemprint machine that he can use to verify gemprints that already exist, but that he can''t actually stamp a gemprint anymore. I think he said to do that he would have to send it away to the main company or something.

But he didn't say they were not in business anymore?

Right - he told me that they were bought by another company.

Do you mean Gemprint machines are no longer available for purchase? Or that the gemprint process is no longer possible? The jeweler led me to believe that the former was true, but the latter was false. He led me to believe he could mail it away, and several hundred dollars and several weeks later, it could come back gemprinted.

GCAL has Gemprint now. The Canadian Govt. is co-marketing NWT diamonds with GCAL and their Gemprint services - I''m not sure where else they may be available.

Rockdoc has long-been a Gemprint follower and may offer comment here.

It is correct.

We used to offer free Gemprints with all our stones over 0.70 Ct, but the service is no longer available.

Sad, but true.

I meant the gemprint process. I guess I can no longer have one done then. If the company no longer exists then whats the point? What happens to existing gemprints with this change now that GCAL owns them?

RE: Gemprint.

Essentially, what has happened since Gcal /Collector''s Universe made the purchase of Gemprint, is to require those who want an officially registered Gemprint, to submit the stone for grading at GCAL.

The dealers, previously sold machines by Gemprint, potential customers, and past customers who have registered their stones are now in "neutral".

Hundreds of thousands of consumers that we placed registrations for who were promised that their stones could be verified by the local gemprint store -reimainging the stone and submitting it back to Gemprint for verification has now been cheated out of what was promised to them.

The dealer with Gemprint machines can image and match stones they have done. But GCAL has closed off access to the upload server where for over 15 years they have been registered. Essentially those who purchased the machines which sold from $ 3500.00- $ 30,000.00 now basically have "airplane wheel chocks" other than for their own internal uses.

Needless to say the actions of GCAL and Collector''s Universe, have caused all the dealers, and consumers a massive headache.

But several of us are working together to find some solutions. I am also leading what will be a pretty serious action with proper authorities criminally, and with attorneys civilly to address the motives and trade practices imposed on us.

For those of us Gemprint folks, who worked with their local police in helping to identify stolen or recovered diamonds that were gemprinted, we are now unable to assist with recoveries. In addition, some insurance companies that provided discounts for having a gemprint previously done, may rescind that discount for consumers, since our recovery / identification services are now defunct too.

The damages will be massive.

You''ll probably all get to hear how this progresses through the news.

I wonder if they''ll get David Beach to take the stand for them. If so, Rock, get Sam Waterston on your side of the aisle.

Don''t need these two. Neil is part of this as well as I. Think our fangs are big enough for whomever they bring to court.

Add the Federal agencies that have now been affected, as well as maybe a couple hundred thousand consumers, some of whom purchased Gemrprint registrations justiably relying on getting 5%-10% discount per year, as long as the item was insured.

Gotta get Legal Eagle finished with her law school pronto. Good case for her.
