The boyfriend and I have been planning on ordering an e-ring from online (either James Allen or Whiteflash) but were still trying to decide between a solitaire and a halo. So we popped into a local jewelery store this weekend to look at some settings in person. They happened to be a Gelin Abaci dealer, which we'd never seen before. The salesman pointed us to them when I said I wanted something simply but not boring. We fell in love with TR-232. We've been planning on buying an AGS 000 RB and love the idea of that much of it being visible.

Afterwards, we read all the posts about Gelin Abaci we could find on pricescope, but most of them seemed like they were a bit older. What are people's general opinions of the brand?

I love tension settings.. :appl:

I love tension settings! The Gelin Abaci line has so many I would personally choose if I purchase an MRB or AVR. I also saw the line in person and know someone who has one IRL. They tend to be on the expensive side. I've done some online price comparisons, here are a few dealers that sell them: http://www.ithacajewelbox.com/gelinabaci-tension-rings

If you get a tension setting please post lots of pictures!

It appears that MSRP on the setting we like is $2,025. The price seemed appropriate to us given the amount of gold (it's quite a hefty piece when on) and the engineering required for a tension setting. We could source a diamond and then have it set via Ithaca Jewel Box (it appears some previous PS members did this) but he wants to go back and see what kind of price the local store can provide. The local store does carry and sell predominately AGS stones. They'll obviously be slightly more than on-line prices, but we want to find out how much more. We'd originally been planning on a G VS2 but if we do that he wants to be able to evaluate the diamonds in person. Since clarity gradings are done face up, he's worried about an inclusion being visible from the side profile since so much of the diamond will be visible in this setting. Is this a viable concern?
