Gardening - watering spikes/globes

Hi All,

Are there any master gardeners that are out there who know how to keep plants alive when you go on vacation? Anyone know if these water spikes/globes work? I was hoping to try these out before leaving town. It would only be for 2 weeks and would be less of a burden on my neighbors checking in on the place.

Yes, they have worked pretty well for me. When we go on vacation, I water everything really, really well and then put the watering spikes in the ground. I have tired the ones that utilize 2 liter plastic bottles and the ceramic ones that hold a wine bottle (the ones in your link). My only word of caution is to be careful when pushing them into the ground because they can break if you are too forceful with them.

Yes-I use these and they will work for about a week. It can vary with the size of the pot and the type of soil you have.
For larger pots I put in two bottles.
