I know a lot of you expressed disinterest in Maggie Sottero but I'm still stuck on trying on the Ella dress from her line.

Problem?

I can't find a single bridal store that carries a sample! What the eff. Why is this so difficult? I can order a sample to the bridal store for a non refundable 100$. Should I do it or not?

sounds like a rip off to me.

but do it if:

a) it is your dream dress, otherwise you will always wonder "what if?"

b) your wedding budget can take the hit

I just looked it up.. it is STUNNING!

I would pay the $100.. but that is me :))

I had trouble finding a sample of the dress I wanted to try on as well. Before I paid that fee, I'd make sure I had really called every bridal shop that carried Maggie within a two hour radius. Maggie's website lets you search by zip code and distance. I'm sure you've made a lof of calls already, but just wanted to make sure you're covering all bases. I'd be willing to take a little time and drive (and pay for gas) rather than pay that money for a dress that I might not be as sure on once it was on my body. You're in the Philly metro area, right? Have you tried stores in NJ and DE? I ended up having to drive 45 minutes to find a sample to try on of the dress I fell in love with online.

Thanks for the replies, ladies :)

Any idea why it isn't in any stores?! It is boggling my mind!

I'll ask FI...right now I'm leaning towards paying the 100$ and getting it sent to the store mainly because I haven't found any other dresses I'm interesting in and I love that one.

That's a really good idea. I did try a bunch of stores around Philly, but I'll call a few more. I'll also try DE. Good suggestion, thank you! If I do locate it and order it from a store that is further away, I don't have to get it altered there...right?

You don't even have to buy it there! Once you know you love the style any store that carries Maggie should be able to order it for you (and since Maggie is a very widely carried line, you can compare prices at different stores).

Oh! Ok! Awesome....I am such an amateur :)

So far 20 stores later, no luck. Waaah

Can the $100 be put towards another dress if it turns out you don't like this one? If so, I'd do it as long as I liked the salon and they had a decent amount of other offerings.

I don't think I could use the 100$ toward something else if I don't like it :(

I think I'll be stuck paying the 100$. I called more places and none of them carry it.

That stinks! Well, if you have tried on similar styles and seen other Maggie's in person and liked them, then I say go for it!

Your dress is gorgeous!!!!!! I hope the one I'm gonna try on is gonna be a winner like yours! :)

Good Luck! Every Maggie dress I have seen in real life has been sooo beautiful, my SO's cousin wore a Maggie and the way those rhinestones catch the light and glitter is out of this world. I'll be getting a Maggie dress (when my time comes), hands down! The Elle looks so beautiful/romantic/classic

If the $100 can go towards the dress than that's great, hopefully everything works out. Make sure to post pics when you do try it on, I'll be lurking :wink2:

autumn-have you considered going to a store first, trying on dresses, and then if there is nothing that you love then ordering the maggie?

They are ripping you off. It only costs the store $50 to get it in, and $30 for shipping. We have the girls pay $80 up front, but $50 of it can go toward any purchase in the store. Have you called around to see how other stores price dresses in the loaner program?

We have the dress in our store and it is beautiful. Too bad you're not close to Oklahoma!! :(

I called two stores and they both said 100$. The store that I wanted to get it shipped to has good reviews/people have told me they are very fair with their prices so now I'm confused about this whole ordeal. Gah.

I wish I could see that dress on an actual person!!!!!

There aren't many bridal stores in my area that carry her line and the few that do carry it were real rude on the phone today except for this particular store.

I thought about it but I feel like I'm gonna get really frazzled. When I walked into the first bridal shop I felt really overwhelmed. I am usually the type of person to say "try it on first even if you don't like it on the hanger".....but not with wedding dresses. I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. I'm just disappointed with everything I see and I feel like if I go and try random dresses on I'm going to leave the shop heavily annoyed and frustrated and saying "I knew this was a bad idea".... I need to stop being picky or stupid, one or the other.

I was really lucky with my experiences trying on dresses. If I were you, I would go into a shop with good reviews, preferably not during a peak time if you are able, and just tell them that you're at the very beginning of the dress buying stage and you want to get a feel for what kind of dress suits you best. Give some guidance as to what you think you might like, but also just put yourself into the consultant's hands. Just let yourself enjoy the experience. Maybe have a glass of champagne first, too. :))

I ended up with a totally different style dress I never would have tried on if it hadn't been for a great consultant who had been dealing with wedding dresses WAAAAYYYYYY longer than I have!

Oh AN, definitely go try on dresses before you spend this money you can't get back on a dress. I liked so many silhouettes I never would have considered otherwise, and hated some stuff I thought I would love. Just find somewhere you can take photos, take a girlfriend with you, and have fun!

autumn-my friend actually bought her dress without trying it on-she just saw it in the catalog. if you really love it then i think you should order it...but I wish the salon would let you put some of the $$ towards a purchase...

that being said, it might be worthwhile to try some on, because sometimes you aren't sure what you will love ON...

Ditto. I think that one store was just a bad experience for you. Why not try the store with good reviews and prices and see yourself in a few more gowns before spending this money.

I'm going to take everyones advice and just try on various dresses. I need to keep an open mind about all this anyways. I will definitely bring a camera and take pictures of some of the dresses I try =] If I find that I don't like ANY, I'll go ahead and order the dress.

P.s. I'm reading some additional reviews of that bridal shop I wanted to go to and I'm reading some very very negative ones. Great.

Well of course they have some negative reviews. Every place does, and people tell 8-10 people about bad customer service versus 1-2 for good. Don't get caught up in that, it's not worth the dramz.

I stopped looking, its for the better not to. I'm just going to pick a place and go.

Good lord woman, put on your big girl panties and go try some dresses 8)

Go alone if you think it might feel stressful, at least the first time. Go in the middle of the day during the week when the place will be empty. Walk in and say, "I want a dress, get me some to try!" Then just get trying.

Don't be critical of yourself, just look at the dresses and see what you think! Try 2-3, if you like the sales staff, try more. If not, go to another place. It should be FUN. When you find the right store where they make you feel comfortable, you will find a dress. I am of the mind that there are many many dresses that you could choose and love, so really it is just about trying them on and finding one you like. It is not about "the one". It removes some stress if you think like that. You may also not have that "AAHHH" moment about the dress you choose. I didn't.

You really need to try them because the style you think you would like may not be the one that looks good on your body. So be creative when you try thingsw on and take some risks. You never know what will catch your eye when it is on your body!

This is the only time in your life you get to wear a killer dress and be a princess. Enjoy it and milk it for all it is worth!

Autumn, if I was you I would go have fun trying on a bunch of different styles. I can't wait to start looking at dresses and trying them on.

If you eventually try on the Ella please post pics! I'm also in love with that dress but I would really like to see how it looks on a 'real' person. :)

I've personally never heard that there was a "disinterest" in Maggie Sottero - I could have purchased much more than I did but I ended up with a Maggie that I found to be prettier than the couture priced gowns I tried on.

That said, if you feel like it could be "the one" for you, I'd pay the $100 and do it. Why don't you try on similar dresses to see if the silhouette is even what looks good on you? That could save you the trouble of ordering it.

Will any bridal salons in your area be holding Maggie Sottero trunk shows? I went to a salon that was having an Enzoani trunk show but they didn't have the dress I wanted. The owner of the salon had a sample shipped a few weeks later and didn't charge me since she felt bad about not having it at the trunk show (and because the salon was a two hour drive from me!).
