Do any of you PS-ers use Freecycle?

For those who aren''t familiar with it, it''s an online community that gifts reusable goods of any kind, for free, to keep ''decent stuff'' from going into landfills. We use it a lot, both to give and get cool stuff!

And it has even saved us money, LOL...we took down our son''s old wood playscape and would have had to pay almost $40 for a large load pickup...but I posted it on freecycle and even though it wasn''t usable to rebuild as a playscape, someone came and took all of it, no charge to us!

We''ve found some nice things too...like our kitchen sink, LOL...when our house was built, we had a standard stainless steel (SMALL) double bowl sink...I HATED it. Then I saw a post for an almost brand new Kohler deep bowl porcelain sink...it had just been removed from a $400,000 condo, whose kitchen was being remodeled! It is beautiful and saved us almost $200.00

So has anyone else done this before? What free treasures have you found? What have you given away? Sometimes I am amazed at what people will post and what people want, LOL! Truly one person''s trash is another person''s treasure!

I''m a member of my region''s group. So far I''ve gotten two boxes of random books. I''ve tried for a bunch of other things but I have been beat out by other users. I''ve given away vegetable plant seedlings that I didn''t have space for in my garden. Those went quite quickly!

Isn''t it amazing how many people reply and how FAST things get snapped up? These people with fast fingers must be at their computer all day...and I bet it can be lucrative too...if they can sell things they''ve gotten for free.

Next spring I may post some day lilies, they have taken over my front bed and need to be thinned out...think I''ll try posting them too!

my computer desk came from freecycle as well as a few other things and I have given some stuff away also. Old computer hardware gets snapped up right away.
I need to do another box or 2 sometime.
My brother got a like brand new set of behind the cab truck tool boxes for his truck for free.

We give away a lot of things on Freecycle. It''s amazing what people will take!

I''ll take a look for the site but how does it work? I''ve never heard of this before, but I think it''s a great idea. We have a few things we''re trying to get rid of in our quest to purge once again.

Is it similar to craigslist?

I''ve been a member of Freecycle.org for almost 2 years. In fact, I belong to several in my area that overlap in cities/towns.

Stuff I have given away:

- hamster stuff (cage & accessories) in fact the woman who took this baked me a batch of cookies after receiving it
- Americast enamel kitchen sink after kitchen remodel
- American standard sinks with vanity tops after bathroom & powder room renovations
- steel entry door
-metal filing cabinet
- old magazines
- treadmill (the person who took this & the computer printer gave me a $50.00 gift certificate to Applebees the following week)
-computer printer

and lots of smaller stuff.

I normally donate clothes and books to Purple Heart and the things they won''t take I get rid of through freecycle

I haven''t received much in return as you have to answer pretty quickly. Some people have offered brand new, never used items on there. Most of the time I find people just looking for stuff. i.e. Wanted - ipod, Nintendo DS, etc.... I wonder if they ever get these things or are just fishing to see who bites.

Also, I leave everything outside and never let anyone into the house.

In case you were wondering the site is www.freecycle.org and you would join one(s) in your local area. Some ask for reasons why you want to join others will just accept you. They have a set of rules for posting, etc. You can even post if you are interested in finding things people might be willing to part with.

Freecycle is like a free Craig''s list...everything offered has to be free and no strings attached! Give it a try, it''s a great way to clean out the junk...I never have good luck with garage sales and this is just a nice way to get rid of things that are still useful!

Hey, I think we should start a PS Freecycle, anyone have any old diamonds laying around?
