Hi All.

Maybe some of the experienced jewelers and diamond dealers can enlighten me. I had a long distance customer drop by recently who insisted that after he purchased a GIA diamond from me he wanted it directly shipped/delivered to GIA where they would, i don''t know exactly, recheck?? or verify?? or appraise?? or something it for him, all for free. In the end I let the customer go because i wasn''t interested in the hassle but i''m curious to know if anyone here knows about this or actually accomodates often these kind of requests???...

I guess i''m being kind of lazy to come and ask this here instead of just calling up GIA myself but hey -- here it''s much more fun :-)

Thx in advance

Daniel

It was a free service for a period because of Certifigate - the GIA scandal where they were said to have had graders bribed.

It was really only an issue for huge rocks.

Otherwise you can do a free online report check with just the stone weight and report 3 here http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/

GIA will, for 50% of their usual fees, examine a stone and a report issued by them describing it to confirm that the information presented is correct. For a brief window after the certifigate problems they were offering this service for ‘free’. All shipping and insurance fees are, of course, unchanged.
