Found my diamond! It''s one of Wink''s Infinity cuts- a 1ct. K SI2. I must have looked nuts, walking around my apartment building staring down at two loose stones on my hand! I''m not going to do a full writeup here, but while both stones I was considering are beautiful, there''s just something special about Wink''s stone. As expected, because the cut is so amazing, the stone looks pretty white when face-up, but some color is understandably noticeable from the sides under certain lighting conditions (as I determined from my extensive, building-wide test

). My setting looks a lot like this, and we''re going to place the stone as low as possible in the setting as my girlfriend is in med school, and will be working a lot with her hands once she''s out.

My question to you sharp-minded people is: do you think I should go for a head/prongs that block out some of the side of the stone, or should I try regular, thin prongs and see what happens? The stone definitely looks a bit ''champagne'' from the side; I love it, and I''m sure my girlfriend will too...and now I can''t decide. I''m looking at it again as I''m typing this, and it''s totally white from the side, as most of my apartment lighting is compact flourescent. Even against a white sheet of paper, it''s not yellowish. Only when I stick it under an incandescent does it look a bit yellow...OK, I just did ANOTHER walk-around, and I''m obviously nuts. This is a beautiful stone, I''m not going to try to hide any of it, it actually looks the yellowest under the spot lighting in my elevator because the fire is so crazy!

I''ll do a full write-up for everyone once I''ve mounted the stone. The custom setting will be done on Friday, I''ll go in Saturday morning, and you can expect a full account that afternoon! Thank you so much for all your help and advice, especially all those threads that I lurked on without posting

Now if only we could get rid of this rain so I could see the stone in daylight

I love stream of conciousness posts. I''m so happy you found your diamond and I cannot wait to see the ring. I LOVE infinity cuts. There really is something special about them.

glad that you found the perfect stone... I have a K stone and so i am all for Ks

I''ve seen Winks amazing infinity on this forum and it''s really a beauty. Because it is ideal cut, the diamond reflects a lot of the color in your environment so when you saw the champaigney color maybe it was reflecting something? just wondering. but there is a tinge of warmth. as for prongs... not sure exactly what you mean? like Bezel or semi bezels to block the girdle and pavilion? have you checked out the K thread in the Show me the ring forum? there are lots of K diamonds with different settings maybe that will help you decide on a setting to showcase your Beauty? just a thought

nevermind... just reread your post, you already got a setting...... It is Beautiful and Congratulations

I can''t wait to see this one!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I wish I could take the credit, but that belongs to Paul, who has the dedication to cut to such tight standards.

I know she will love it, the mounting is very beautiful! The only thing I would suggest given your fiance''s future profession is having the jeweler drop in a half bezel head for the diamond, that way it will never rip her gloves.

It would be more practical, but the mounting is so perfect looking as it is that it may not be the best looking solution.

Thank you for taking the time to compare my stone against the "better" one and for looking with an open enough mind to chose the better looking one. It warms my heart when you vote with your eyes rather than with the paper!

Wink

As I mentioned, I''ll be doing a full write-up once this the stone is set, but to tide you all over in the meantime, here''s a link to a quick video Wink made for me, addressing a concern I had about an inclusion. I couldn''t see it in the video, I can''t see it now that the stone is in my hands. Enjoy!

What a stunning diamond! There is just something about those Crafted by Infinities, isn''t there? Great choice, and looking forward to the rest of the story.
