Found my diamond! It''s one of Wink''s Infinity cuts- a 1ct. K SI2. I must have looked nuts, walking around my apartment building staring down at two loose stones on my hand! I''m not going to do a full writeup here, but while both stones I was considering are beautiful, there''s just something special about Wink''s stone. As expected, because the cut is so amazing, the stone looks pretty white when face-up, but some color is understandably noticeable from the sides under certain lighting conditions (as I determined from my extensive, building-wide test
). My setting looks a lot like this, and we''re going to place the stone as low as possible in the setting as my girlfriend is in med school, and will be working a lot with her hands once she''s out.
My question to you sharp-minded people is: do you think I should go for a head/prongs that block out some of the side of the stone, or should I try regular, thin prongs and see what happens? The stone definitely looks a bit ''champagne'' from the side; I love it, and I''m sure my girlfriend will too...and now I can''t decide. I''m looking at it again as I''m typing this, and it''s totally white from the side, as most of my apartment lighting is compact flourescent. Even against a white sheet of paper, it''s not yellowish. Only when I stick it under an incandescent does it look a bit yellow...OK, I just did ANOTHER walk-around, and I''m obviously nuts. This is a beautiful stone, I''m not going to try to hide any of it, it actually looks the yellowest under the spot lighting in my elevator because the fire is so crazy!
I''ll do a full write-up for everyone once I''ve mounted the stone. The custom setting will be done on Friday, I''ll go in Saturday morning, and you can expect a full account that afternoon! Thank you so much for all your help and advice, especially all those threads that I lurked on without posting
Now if only we could get rid of this rain so I could see the stone in daylight
