OK, well I spoke with Mark at ERD and he found this stone for me....Oval , 1.18ct. G SI1. It has an extremely small bowtie. The SI1 is under the table but is very eye clean. The ratio is 1.32. The cost of the diamond is $4,650.00. Table is 63 and it has a slightly thick girdle. The stone will be set East & West.

The problem now is finding a ring...here is the ring that I wanted....http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-settings.asp?module=setting&cid=57&item=15

I have been told a few times that it isn''t the best ring for this style of setting and diamond, so I have resigned to the fact that I don''t know anything! Now I come to you all asking for you to help me find a similar style ring. The kind of ring that I want is one that is not too flashy (i.e. lots of other diamonds). I love the detail of the ring that I posted, so I would like something inticate like this, but not too antiquey (is that a word?). All ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again (for the 12th time.)

I guess I can see why you have been told not to set an oval east-west on a band like that, but I am not convinced it's all that bad. I would have to see it to say "yay or nay."

Settings that have a raised housing for the stone, or some kind of design element that draws your eye up the ring sides to the stone might work better. I know these are too ornate for your taste but the pictures may get my point across better.

A semi-bezel setting would look nice with an e-w oval as well, but that look can be interpreted as a bit more modern. The bezels would anchor the stone visually.

How about a halo setting? This would set off the stone well also. I think the fear with the setting you picked it that it will blend in with the band when set e-w. You need something to frame it more and anchor your eye to the edges of the stone, since less of the stone will "hang over" the band width.

but with an oval stone, of course. :)

I'll keep thinking and looking; will post if I have any brainstorms.

Found a thread with a picture of a prong-set e-w oval and it looks very nice, so I think you can go with your original idea.
