For something intricate like a Tacori, which would be better over time?

WG or Platinum?

I know that you need to polish platinum after it develops patina over time while all you have to do is to replate WG.... with something that is intricate and has a lot of pave, which would wear better over time?

I mean, I don''t think you can get into every crevice and little area around the pave when polishing platinum....???

While you can get closer to them when replating with rhodium, right?

Am I even making any sense?

Thanks for the help peeps!

My jeweler actually suggested having a custom mount made with white gold. Im having a similar setting made with Tacori''s crescent style band. He stated the problem with having a platinum crescent-set in platinum may cause a crescent to deform if smacked hard enough. Made enough sense to me I just chose WG.

The point of having a platinum engraved setting as intricate as a Tacori would be that you don't EVER polish it. How is it ever supposed to look antique? Some people like patina...it adds richness. Others don't like it- it looks dull. To them, I say get gold.

I got a Tacori crescent wedding set in platinum. The bands have baguettes set end-to-end in millegraine with paved crescents on the sides. I later ordered an engraved Richard Landi ring in platinum because he suggested it. He said that heavily engraved styles are better in platinum. That being said, I have a white gold ring with millegraine that looks good too. I have the kind of skin that doesn''t affect white gold much, so for me, the issue is just cost. I do love the look of my platinum ring, though.

I''m not sure I totally agree with that statement. Both have the potential to deform if smacked hard enough in the style you are speaking about.

To the OP.... which style are you considering? I have a platinum 2620 and the areas that are pave have very limited metal and because of this don''t show much patina. Also, the underside of the band is where the patina shows but no one really sees that. I have to get my WG rings dipped every six months and because of this would never have gotten my engagement ring in WB. I hope that give you a little to think about.

I was looking at the 2565 Crescent....
