Good find! You don't see many old cuts of that size for sale here, that's for sure!

I want photos!! Wahhhh!

You want me to ask for some?

Ok I have asked for more info, photos, price and if certified.

I will keep you guys informed! :Up_to_something:

Glam, that is so weird! My OMC is 4.09ct, and I also live in Nedlands... who knew it had a sister so close to home? Please share info once you get it!

I know ZL! I did wonder if it was your stone, and was a bit worried! But I checked back on your posts and realised the stats didn't match. Phew.

Maybe you should get it and make earrings.

Got this from the seller:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Old European Cut diamond.

The diamond is a beautiful stone and has been in the owner's family for over 100years.

The current owner is only interested in selling the ring for it's antique and collectable OEC value, not as a stone to be cut down.

These are the specifications for the stone:

Old Cut Diamond
4.1 carots total weighed
Measuring 9.51x9. 18x6.28mm
Colour K
Clarity SI1
Slight blue florescence

We are currently looking for offers on the ring.

Full certification will be provided at sale.

If you are a genuinely interested buyer then please call me to discuss.

I have again asked for photos and where it was certified. She may not want to tell me of course... I do have contact details but don't know that I should post them here. If anyone is interested maybe message her through gumtree.

Yeah they are not going to let that baby go cheap!

Gumtree really doesn't seem to be the right forum to find the type of person that would be interested in such a stone.

but then, we are all oohing and ahhing over it. ;))

I emailed and I phoned. Have yet to hear back though.

1) Not revealing the cert
2) Not posting pics
3) Not naming a price...

It's like they don't actually want to sell it, eh?

...what exactly is 'antique and collectible' value?

They've obviously had the stone appraised at some point, since they have stats for it that most 'hand me down' stones wouldn't have. If their appraisal is anything like mine, they'll be wanting an absolutely astronomical price for it.

"extremely rare"

Zahra I dare you to call up and tell them you are in the same suburb, have one yourself with similar specs and would like to make a pair of studs out of them. :cheeky:

We should have bets on what they want for it.

Mine is 100k. 8)

$89,999. And that's my final offer.

Take it or leave it. :rodent:

I have been to an Antique Dealers in Nedlands. Is it through one of them or this a private sale?

Either way I would like to see it!

My guess, $75,000.

Ps Is it normal to sell an antique stone with the stipulation it has not to be recut? Surely that can't be enforced. If you buy it surely it is yours to with as you please. ;)

I have to guess this is their way of saying, "don't try to get a bargain based on scrap value."

The plot thickens.

I received the same standard email that Glam got. What was interesting though is the contact person is a very high profile Perth lawyer, which means the owner/ family is probably high profile. Ooh I really want to know the story behind this stone!

Well I got a photo this morning! I would love a PS to get this.

I'm glad you posted it! I was too chicken. :rodent:

Has he answered any of your questions yet? I got the same email as yourself and then the photo. I wrote an email back immediately asking for a ballpark figure but nothing.

Oh she sure is pretty. *sigh*

I had told them in my email that I was posting details on here, so I presume they are OKing it by sending me the photo anyway! Hey, it can only help sell it by posting on a diamond forum!

No other info tho, just the photo and an attachment of my previous email.

I am curious was that little spider looking thing is, whether it is something on the stone or inside it. It looks fairly visible if an inclusion.

My husband asked whose ring it was when I opened the photo so i told him someone in Perth is selling it and asking for offers. He said offer them $1,000 on appro. hahaha oh he is funny bugger!

edited to add - I had another email in my junk, saying thank you for posting the link to the sale, so he is OK with it.
I want someone from here to buy it so we can see what happens to it!!!!

Oh man, I SO want to see that on someone's hand (preferably mine, haha). I too am curious about the spidery looking thing - it doesn't look to me as if they've cleaned the ring at all though, and they certainly haven't polished it, so it's not out of the question that it's something that got stuck down between the diamond and the prong there.

The owners are hoping to achieve $50k.

A jeweler has offered $25k and another jeweler in Broome has said it was worth $80k.

I think we should try and find this baby a PS home so we get to see it some more! :sun:

The jeweller in Broome is off his/her head. There's no way it's worth that much.

When I had my stone appraised, I was told it was worth $28K 'wholesale' and $58K 'retail'. Those figures don't mean anything to me, since I didn't buy it as an investment, but I would say that the jeweller who offered them $25K is on the money.

Looks like it has some girdle abrasions in addition to the itsy bitsy spider. both might be dirt or grime though. regardless it's a lovely little boulder. love that creamy color and facet pattern.

I was thinking around $40k so if they are asking $50k, they would probably negotiate. I think $25k wholesale is probably right too, but he will probably prefer to sell to an end user.

I'll put my car, and hubby's, in the Quokka this weekend and have this baby on my finger by next week. :naughty:

That's a gorgeous stone. I would love to see it go to a PS'r also!

The culet is way to large for my taste.... so... I don't want to buy it (fortunatly)! lol lol

I didn't get it for Christmas OR my birthday boooooooooooooohoooooooooooooo booooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooo

(but I was thoroughly spoiled by my fabulous DH  )

Anyone else care to admit it was under their tree? ;))

:wavey:
