* You stand in "line-ups" at the movie, not lines.
* You''re not offended by the term "Homo Milk".
* You understand the sentence, "Could you please pass me a serviette, I just spilled my poutine".
* You eat chocolate bars instead of candy bars.
* You drink pop, not soda.
* You know what it means to be on pogey.
* You can drink legally while still a ''teen.
* You talk about the weather with strangers and friends alike.
* You don''t know or care about the fuss with Cuba, it''s just a cheap place to travel with good cigars.
* When there is a social problem, you turn to your government to fix it instead of telling them to stay out of it.
* You get milk in bags as well as cartons and plastic jugs.
* Pike is a type of fish, not some part of a highway.
* You drive on a highway, not a freeway.
* You know what a Robertson screwdriver is.
* You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers.
* You know that Thrills are something to chew and "taste like soap".
* You know that Mounties "don''t always look like that".
* You dismiss all beers under 6% as "for children and the elderly".
* You know that the Friendly Giant isn''t a vegetable product line.
* You know that Casey and Finnegan are not a Celtic musical group.
* You participated in "Participaction".
* You wonder why there isn''t a 5 dollar coin yet.
* You use a red pen on your non-Canadian textbooks and fill in the missing ''u''s from labor, honor, and color.
* You know the French equivalents of "free", "prize", and "no sugar added", thanks to your extensive education in bilingual cereal packaging.
You can eat more than one maple sugar candy without feeling nauseous.
* You were mad when "The Beachcombers" was taken off the air.
* You know what a toque is.
* You have some memento of Doug and Bob.
* You know Toronto is not a province. (...yet)
* You never miss "Coaches Corner".
* Back bacon and Kraft Dinner are two of your favourite food groups.
* You actually get these jokes and can share with all your Canadian friends!!

That made me laugh... so true! Although I don''t know what a ''Thrill'' is?

Doug and Bob''s "12 Days of Christmas" is the best song ever.

My husband, who''s Canadian, didn''t remember either until I did a bit of googling. At which point he goes "oh god. those things. they do taste like soap".

Why would anyone want to chew something that tastes like soap?

I''m in Michigan, so I get some of these!

Plus, we take full advantage of being able to drink as a teen. I was 15 minutes from Windsor, and we''d spend most of our weekened there when we were 19 and 20! (Ok, and younger... fake IDs)

Ah..yes the drinking age..I wonder if they will change that in the US !!
I remember being on our honeymoon, and the waitress asked my husband (23 at the time) for ID..I laughed hysterically, then realized oh..yeah.."here" it''s 21 not 19!! We had been getting into bars since about 17 years of age (everyone had fake ID back then)!

Thrills do taste soapy, but they are soooo go. My favorite gum by far, and they are one of the few left that don''t contain artificial sweetner, just plain old sugar! They are more expensive now then they used to be...I remember when a package cost 25 cents!

Yeah I was gonna say, I ''get'' a large portion of these! I guess there''s a lot of cultural bleed into the midwest.

These are very funny! I grew up near the New York/Canada Border (the St. Lawrence river, so not near Buffalo), and I get pretty much all of them. I have a lot of Canadian friends, and they talk about a lot of this stuff!

And a Beer!.....

Sigh. i so should have been Canadian! !

After having 4 kids, the first real trip DH and I took together in over 10 years (Walmart doesn''t count) was to Montreal. We had poutine, used lots of serviettes, and each prepared for our coronary bypass afterwards. It was fantastic!

Isn''t poutine just the GREATEST? It''s what puts that extra layer of insulation on our bodies, for the colder winter months!

I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing!!

I loved Casey and Finnegan! Not to mention Polka Dot Door.

Hubby and I were just "youtubing" these the other night.

Brings back a lot of memories!

I ate 3 maple sugar candies today.

My mom is addicted to Thrills!

Hubby caught a Pike this weekend

This was fun - thanks for posting Beau, alot of them actually gave me the ''chills'' when I read them and brought me back to my youth (ie. Participaction). I haven''t lived in Canada for more than 10 years and have alot of American friends in my entourage - none of them went to Grade 13 ! I can''t wait to be ''home'' in Toronto this summer !!!!

Oh Beau that''s too funny! I really got a laugh thanks for putting it up and it''s SO TRUE at least for me about the pop vs. soda my cousins are from California and every time I said it they were weirded out and laughed at me...

Also do you know they call toques beanies in the States, well at least in Cali

Me too! When someone says beanie, I visualize one like that with the little whirly-gig-thingie on top!!

TLH, I''m SO glad you asked this question! I''m not Canadian either and I''ve always wondered this too.

You know you''re canadian when ... you listen to the Vinyl cafe on CBC.

CBC did a contest a while back to see what the Canadian equivalent of "As American as apple Pie" was: As Canadian as.....

The winning entry was " As Canadian as possible, given the circumstances" that about sums up our national mindset.

You know you''re Canadian when smarties are chocolate and you eat the red ones last, and "Ice tea" comes chiled, pre-sweetened, and with lemon.

You know you''re Canadian when an (insert small town name here) Tuxedo is a fleece (or flannel) jacket and jeans.

You know you''re Canadian when major public events sometimes begin with a First Nations blessing (at least in BC they do).

Re: Canadian Bacon - is that the cornmeal-covered ham that doesn''t taste like bacon? (Maybe it''s called back bacon here in Canada?)
Most Canadians I know eat regular bacon that comes in strips.
