This forum taught me enough that diamond''s fluorescence will not affect diamond''s beauty or price as long as it is not too strong!

But after I read the following explanation in the tutorial section, I''ve got scared a little bit and concern about health.
"Visible light emitted by electrons, in an object when it is being excited by electromagnetic energy (say UV light or X-rays), as they (the electrons) fall from a higher state of energy to a lower state emitting photons of light."

Please tell me that I should not worry about my diamond earings (faint fluorescence, though) emitting excess energy after absorbing radiation under daily sunlight (for example 4-hours outside) and why?

I have never heard of any health issue related to diamond flourescence, and although I am not a gemologist I have done a lot of reading on flourescence because I actually desire it in my diamonds.

Don't worry about it. As you can see, they're emitting mild UV light, which you get every day by walking around outside. The dosage is much lower than from the sun.

(This is not at all definitive, but I'm reasonably sure)

No, you should not worry about it at all. Why, because it represents no possible danger. I do not believe that photons present any danger to you and certainly they do not at the levels you would receive. Most stones only fluoresce during the time they are receiving the energy. If they emit light after, that is called photoilluminescence, and that will not hurt you either.

"Visible light emitted by electrons, in an object when it is being excited by electromagnetic energy (say UV light or X-rays), as they (the electrons) fall from a higher state of energy to a lower state emitting photons of light."

Translation:
According to smart guys.... Electrons (like sponges) can absorb extra energy. Instead of getting bigger (as sponges do), electrons 'get excited' and move farther away from the center of the atom. As usual... what goes up must come down - and when they do.... (in the same way that the liquid comes out of the sponge) the extra energy has to go somewhere and takes the form of light...

therefore.... your diamonds (in direct sunlight or under a blacklight) will emit as much harmful stuff as a lightbulb.... one perhaps as large as 1/100th the size of one (small) Christmas light bulb.

All light takes the form of photons, so you are surrounded and bombarded with them 24/7 for your entire life...when that blue light, emitted when the electrons surrounding the carbon atoms of your diamond crystal fall to a lower energy state, enters your eyes and excites the rods of your retinae, that should translate somewhere in the visual cortex and limbic system of your brain into a bit of pleasure, I hope!...enjoy!!

However, don't let the UV light source shine directly into your eyes...that can be damaging to your retinae.

Thank you everybody! I feel better!

So, I have already been surrounded by full of photons of light.
Only diamonds can be so exiting compared to traffic lights or PC screen backlight.

LOL..uh oh...what about tooth paste...oh wait, that's flouride

And if you live on Long Island like me, you're already chock full of nasty chemicals and radiation...not to mention this lap top on my lap and me standing in front of the microwave watining for my hot dog

Actually, I think I just read something in the AMA that flourescence could kill you with prolonged exposure, so everyone with blue flourescent diamonds should send them to me immediately to avoid harm.
