I''ve been lurking on the board and I''ve learned so much from everyone here.

I''m considering buying a stone with strong blue flouresence. It''s of I color and VS2 clarity. I''ve read that this should make it appear more white. Do you think it will look more like a G?

Also, do GIA certs list a diamond as over-blue if it will cause a milky and/or oily look? I''m very concerned about this because it''s a diamond from an on-line vendor.

Thank you!

Check the return policy and ask them to take it outseide in strong sunlight and see if it gets murky.
The majority of the time it wont.

Making an i look like g really depends on the persons eyes.
Myself face up in not so great cut diamonds can just barely tell an I no flouresence from a g and If I didnt know which was which and have them side by side I couldnt at all in the 1/2ct diamonds I compared.

Chances are you will never see any effect at all from that fluorescence, unless all but UW lights are turned off. Also, while fluo may have some impact on color appearence, offsetting two color grades could be a bit overly optimistic. This effect will turn on, in any case, only when there is a strong UW component in the lighting available and the impact of fluorescence on color appearence will depend on how strong this UW component is. So, while fluorescence can be regarded as a 'bonus' in near-colorless diamonds, it is not working full-time at improving the color grade. All in all, strong fluorescence should still cause a dsicount.

There is a GIA study available on how strong the visual impact on fluorescence really is. Here are some excerpts of it ... (GIA readingI, GIA II, GIA III). The stone in that picture has exceptionally strong fluorescence - you will not see such a blue glow out of your stone - probably a more mild effect.
