Today, I came across 3 loose Flanders cut stones totaling 1.25ctw(.80ct, .23ct, .22ct).

I have not seen a Flanders cut set, other than in pictures. They tend to look very much like RB after they are set, so I am hesitant on purchasing them.

I was wondering if anyone owns a Flanders cut or has experienced them set in person-can you differentiate them from RB in person?

I have considered bezel setting the stones or turning them on point, to possibly show off more of the cut corners or in halos that follow the cut to try and show them off a little differently!?!?!

They also face up smaller than RB, so are they really worth the $$$ if they tend to look like RB after they are set???

Any opinions would be much appreciated

HI stepcutnit!

Flanders can be very pretty! Years ago we carried a few.
If you love the ring go for it!
One important aspect is that the brand itself has pretty much gone by the wayside.
I don;t believe they are currently being cut.
I could be wrong- if someone knows different, I''d be interested.
BUT, if I am correct, it would seem to be similar to buying a discontinued model of something- and therefore not worth the considerable premiums the cut used to trade for.

I hope this helps.

I can''t comment on the Flanders cut specifically, but at one point I did consider getting a princess of hearts stone which is a similar shape. In the 1ct range, it pretty much looked like a round, unless I looked at the stone very closely.

However, if you were to set it in a bezel, then I don''t think it will look as round.

Here''s one from GOG

Side note, it looks quite interesting the way it''s pictured.

Thanks David-I would say that the price on the stones are very good, just don''t want them to look like RB when set!

BG-I do love the look of the stone set on point, maybe bezeling would also be the way to go to show off it's cut corners, thanks for the link!

Hi SCN - I don''t think I''ve ever seen a flanders - but if they do look similiar to GOG PoH, I owned a 0.6ct PoH at one stage, and imho it looked really nice.
It did perform like an RB (which was good), but I still thought it was distinctive enough not to look just like a round (to those that know what they''re looking at).

Hrmm..re-reading, not sure if my comments are any help, but there ya go anyways!

I wanted one for a long time but decided against buying for all the reasons you stated.
