Hi all....So, after months of research and talking to jewelers, I think I finally might be ready to purchase a ring for my special lady. I just wanted to get people's opinions regarding the price (am I getting a fair deal), any general comments about the stone and tacori ring, and should I pass on the stone because of the faint fluorescence? Thank you in advance.

Here are the specs on the diamond:
GIA certified
Round
7.53 x 7.60 x 4.75
Depth: 58%
Table: 62.8%
Carats: 1.70 ct
Color: I color
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Very good
Polish: Very good
Symmetry: Very Good
faint fluorescence
Price of diamond: $10,500

I would mount it in a plantium or white gold tacori mounting, probably BA4190: heres the link: http://www.tacori.com/TACORI-SRCH/ENGAGEMENT/BA4190-A-4-1-30-/

Thanks again everyone

Do you have the crown and pavilion angles?\

Anyway, for your question: faint fluorescence is not visible. And there''s nothing wrong with fluorescence.

Can you check the depth and table also, it sounds as if they are reversed ( I could be wrong though).

I'm sorry I got the mixed up the table and depth.
The correct depth and table are as follows:
Depth 62.8%
Table: 58%

Sorry about that. I don't have the crown angles. sorry

do you have the girdle thickness?

No problem!

It is a bit deep, most we see have depths of around 60 - 62% or a little more for a balanced round brilliant. Unfortunately without the angles we can''t evaluate the diamond properly as they are the critical factor which dictate light return. So unless you want to look for some other diamonds then you will have to go by your eyes and check this diamond out away from the store lights if possible to see how it looks. I would suggest comparing this diamond to some AGS0 cut grade ( Jareds sell them) or some Hearts on Fire if there is a dealer closeby, that way you will have a comparison of diamonds of known cut quality so you can see how this one holds up.

Thanks Lorelei. I''m going to contact the jeweler tomorrow and request the angles. Thanks again.

You are very welcome, let us know how you get on!

62.8% depth, 58% table, 35.5° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle

price is $10,500

What do you think?

You can do better, it is on the deep side and the angles fall into what we call steep deep territory. This basically means that the angle combo is not the best and can lead to light leakage, which can make the diamond look dark especially around the table. Unless you are in love with this diamond, I would look for some others but if you are set on this one, ask if you can look at it away from the store lights so you can give it a good test drive and see for yourself how it behaves. Jewellery store lights can hide proportion negatives like steep deep leakage which can become apparent when you view the diamond in everyday lighting.

Thank you for your opinion lorelei, I really appreciate it. Will you tell me what you think about these two stones as well? I have narrowed it down to these 3. Any info anyone can provide would be great!

#1 ($9650)
Round GIA
Measurements: 7.60 - 7.64 x 4.83
Carat Weight: 1.75 ct
Color: I Color
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Very good
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: excellent
Fluorescence: Medium blue
Depth: 63.4
Table: 59
Crown angle: 36.0
Crown height: 14.5%
pavilion angle: 41.6
pavilion depth: 44%
Girdle: slightly thick

#2 ($9100)
Round GIA
Measurements: 7.46 - 7.52 x 4.76mm
Carat Weight: 1.70 ct
Color: I Color
Clarity: VS2
Cut Grade: Very good
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: Medium blue
Depth: 63.6%
Table: 56%
Crown angle: 37.0
Crown height: 16.5%
pavillion angle: 40.4
pavillion depth: 42.5%
Girdle: slightly thick to thick

Number 1 is very bad. Do not go within a mile of it.

#2 might be ok. A Tolkowsky super ideal 1.7 I SI1 would be 12000, 13000. HCA gives it a 2.4-Worth buying if the price is right. It could be a pretty nice stone. You're seeing a decent discount, since it faces up similar to a 1.6 ct stone...seems to be priced fairly if it's a nice stone.

sorry rsa, I would pass on all 3.
Take a peek at the tutorials under the knowledge button at the top of the page. The reading will keep you busy for a while, and there are cut charts towards the end of the tutorial.

Thanks all. Is $9100 a good price for #2?

I am not keen on #2, too deep for me but it is the best bet out of the three you listed, however again you can do better. Can you find any more?

And you are most welcome!

Why don''t you go a little smaller and get a stone with a better cut?

1.45ct H SI1

Even though this one is less carat weight it''s dimension aren''t that much smaller.

Good pick Swingie!

Thanks for another option Swingie, but that one might be out a bit of my price range. I did find another one, http://search.virtcert.com/cgi/u/1012/v.cgi?stock=9002016&_s=1012&_p=sdf348gd743&_c=&_fs=1&prestock=&_ln=ps

1.60
VS2, I

Any thoughts? Better than the rest. Has same or better dimensions than the others.

I tried to bring the grading report up on the GIA website with no luck, so as we need the crown and pavilion angles for this diamond, you would need to ask USACerted for them. The table is a little larger than some we see but the angles are the critical factor.

Ok folks, want to thank everyone for their help and advice. I got it narrowed down to 2 diamonds (hopefully).

#1 ($9700)
1.64
I
VS2
7.59- 7.63 x 4.61mm
GIA - Excellent cut
very good polish and symmetry
No florescence
Round
Depth: 60.6
Table: 58
Crown Angle: 34
Pavilion angle: 40.6

#2 ($9200)
1.60
I
VS2
7.51- 7.55 x 4.61mm
GIA - Excellent cut
excellent good polish and symmetry
No florescence
Round
Depth: 61.2
Table: 59
Crown Angle: 33.5
Pavilion angle: 41.4

I like #1 because of the dimensions, faces up pretty big, comparable to a 1.70 and I like #2 because of the price and excellent/excellent/excellent.

Going by the numbers, I like the first one best - any chance of an Idealscope image?
