If this were Thanksgiving, I'd mention how thankful I am for PS. This is hands down the best place for knowledge. The threads on here are amazing tools and show prime examples.

Although, since each experience is different, I decided I must make a thread. After searching like Decaprio, I believe I may have found something that could fit the bill (1.21ct/I/VS2/Excellent Cut):

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?pt=findsimilar#certViewer_cert_pid=LD04163270|cert_num=1

The HCA lands at a 1.7

I inquired with BN regarding the "additional clouds" and if there was any haziness or cloudiness. I had no luck while requesting a picture, but their response is below:
"A VS2 like the one you're looking at will always be what we call "eye clean", which is to say that when you're looking at it under normal conditions, you will not see any of those inclusions. Actually, seeing a larger number of inclusions on a stone of this quality makes me feel better about it. Although it's counterintuitive, having a large number of inclusions is better than having a fewer number on a diamond of the same clarity grade. The GIA grades on a combination of quantity and quality of inclusions and you are less likely to be able to see a large number of small inclusions.

As for the florescence, we have a report from the vault that that florescence doesn't affect the look of the diamond. I did double check that for you as well, and the vault confirmed that this stone has excellent luster. In a lower color like an I, a blue florescence can actually trick the eye into thinking the diamond looks like a higher color. So in this case you have all of the advantages, and none of the disadvantages."

It sort of sounds like I just walked into a casino.

My goal is to have something in hand by Easter, but now I am torn. I am really just looking for something sparkly, clean, white and >1ct... [VS1>, I>, Excellent Cut?]. I think the VSB might be a winner here, with a minimal effect. But, I was really leaning toward a pave sort of setting. Would the color of the small diamonds make the large, blue I look awful? http://www.bluenile.com/petite-pave-ring-platinum_17875 I also looked at their line of Signatures, but they seemed a bit too pricey. edit: the more I look, the pave seems to be the wrong choice....

Any opinions or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Oh, and did I mention her best friend mentioned that she wanted a princess cut? Ick...stubborn me will likely be sticking with a RB that wows her. Thanks so much for your time and help.

Please get her a princess if that's the shape she wants.

Don't be stubborn about this point. You don't have to wear this ring for the rest of your life - she does.

If she wants a princess, check out these options, as they have great light performance:

1.2ct, G, VS2 (my favorite option, with very impressive performance)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10644/

1.31ct, F, SI1
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11883/

1.09ct, H, VS2 - Solasfera
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10456/

Any of those options leaves enough room for a nice setting like you had linked, which can feature MRBs. That way, your girl gets the stone shape she wants, and you still get to enjoy the MRB melee.

Excellent, thank you both.

I just double checked with her girlfriends and it confirms I never was the sharpest knife in the drawer. "I'm sure she'd be in love with whatever you got her, but her first preference is princess with diamonds around the band so it would be that much more awesome for her"

Raccoon, that first one is gorgeous and the images for sure check out. An MRB cut into a Princess sounds ideal, but is this classified as a modified square? I suppose I should get the setting from Good Old Gold to avoid having to bring it somewhere local, no?

I would ask Jon to talk you through those first 2 stones. I kind of like the second one better
but Jon could give you lots more info.

Please do get her a princess if that's what she wants.

Give Jon at Good Old Gold a call and he'll get you set up.

He can even make a video of a few of the stones you're looking at, so you can compare with your own eyes. That way, you can be sure your eyes agree with the experts!

Good Old Gold also has arrangements with many setting manufacturers, so that you'll be able to get the stone set at the same place you buy it - avoiding risk, confusion, and hassle. Send Jon the link to the setting you were looking at and he'll find you something similar, or give you other similar options.

Let us know how it goes!

Please get her a princess.

LOVE the just walked into a casino comment

If she really wants a princess cut, why not buy her an AGS Ideal-0 princess cut? They tend to cost less than a round, because they are cut from diamond rough which is irregular in shape, and therefore costs less... but which also makes them a bit more challenging to buy online since each one is cut slightly different and thus it's practically impossible to buy them by the numbers, as is possible with rounds and the right reflector scope images. But it is possible to find them, my personal preference is for those with two or three chevron facet pavilions, lots of threads on PS along this subject...

Rocky, I love that idea, that's exactly what I was thinking too! I did that with my setting - since I LOVE oval center stones, I chose H&A melee for the sidestones so I could enjoy their amazing blingability as well.

Ok, princess it is with sparkly melee sidestones. Thanks for reinforcing that without crucifying me.

I have checked yet again with her girlfriends and they confirm she looked at a halo in a shop and thought it was "too round," so that seems to be off the table.

I have a message into Jon and will update you all along the way =)!

Great, how exciting!!! Yes, please keep us updated. :wavey:

I think you'll enjoy working w/ GOG and don't hesitate to ask Jonathan or his staff any questions you might have about the stones your considering or the settings, etc along the way.

It's really important to them that you feel completely comfortable w/ your decisions and they won't make you feel like you're asking a "stupid question" or "questioning their expertise" in any way at all. This whole process can be intimidating at times, but they have a gift of making you really feel at ease.

Wow they are fast...well I know how much you guys like the eyecandy, so here is the video! Any favorites or votes always welcome ;))

These are not what I ever expected princess cuts to look like. They are all so wonderful.

The one setting is a bit too blingy and haloish, but I shall cipher the options tonight.

"The lady who puts these on her hand, God help the person who puts their princess cut alongside of these..."

Last bump until arrival, I promise.

Going for the 1.2ct with the setting below...*gulps*. The 1.3ct was tempting for the size, but I think the 1.2 just looks too sexy.

Thanks again everyone. Pics to come soon.

Glad to hear you ended up with that result. To be honest, any of the stones would have made a fine choice, but I like the one you decided on very much.

Hope Jon made the process as smooth as possible.

Your girl is going to be very pleased with the end result.

Show us some pictures when you're done, as it's always awesome to see these projects come together!

As promised...(my cellphone pic does not do it justice)

Thank you all for your help! She was extremely surprised and very happy; although, she had never heard what "a platinum" was.
