Obama haters, listen up! The first issue many progressive liberals have had with Obama has popped up. Pastor Rick Warren is going to give the invocation at Obama''s inauguration. Apparently Warren is to the right on many social issues, including gay marriage and reproductive rights. I am no expert on the man, so if anyone knows more about Warren please fill me in!

I know many Republicans are scared stiff that Obama is a pinko Commie who''s going to turn America into a socialist country. However, (whether I like it or not) this choice seems to be one among many that point to Obama being relatively bipartisan and centrist.

I remember one of the presidential debates was held at Rick Warren's church. Saddleback Church is very large in my area and it was a big deal when they were here. I wonder if that has an effect?

I agree that it does move him more towards the center, but maybe a bipartisan leader will help.

Side note, a person in my Ethnography (Anthropology) class studied this church for his term project. A lot of his findings were very interesting and pointed to Rick Warren's conservative ideals.

Danielle - you and I must be neighbors. I pass Saddleback Church while I''m out and about, at least once a week. I think Warren is a slimeball who would do anything to promote himself, his church, and/or his books. Saddleback Church is pretty conservative, not to the point of being crazy, so I was surprised to see him involved with the inauguration.

Thanks for the input, Danielle and Erica. I''m not too impressed with this choice, myself. I just think he probably could have easily chosen a more liberal pastor. But as long as Warren''s beliefs don''t affect Obama''s choices as president (and I don''t think they will), I guess I don''t care.

Haha, DH said he''s not going to the inauguration now!!

I''ve read his book, and I liked it, but I don''t claim to know much about him. He seems to be in that unfortunate middle ground that I find myself in, where the conservative Christians find him too liberal, and the liberal Christians find him too conservative. Same old story.

I think that it is pretty sad when people want a liberal pastor. Jesus was not a liberal. Since when have the principles in the Bible changed? Or have human principles changed? If you want someone liberal, then don''t have a pastor.

LOL!

I wont get into a large debate but we really do not know how conservative Jesus was. All we have is a book written by man (not God).

I don''t particularly like the choice. I agree he could have chosen a more liberal individual to coincide with his beliefs. As I said, it could help with the partisan problems we are having.

Who knows.

People are finally going to see the truth about Obama! That he is a Politician! And that he is the President of the United States, and he is supposed to be there for ALL the American people. Not just a few certain interest groups, and not just for those that voted for him.

While I agree that his bipartisanship is refreshing and that politicians should in theory represent ALL of the American people, that''s not really possible and it definitely has NEVER happened in the Bush administration. You know all those American people who didn''t vote for Bush, who don''t agree with the war, who don''t want religion dictating our politics, who don''t want abstinence-only education, who don''t agree with the Patriot Act, who want access to safe and legal abortions, who want to be able to marry their same sex partner, etc.? Bush told us to F off the day he took office.

If you really believe what you just said, you should be worrying about our side, too. I don''t think that''s the case, though.

And I''d like to know what the truth is about Obama. The last I heard, the truth coming from the Republican part was that he was a Muslim Socialist terrorist.

Many if not most politicians wouldn''t even consider inviting someone who might ruffle their political base to play such a prominent role in their innauguration, and most of the few who might consider such a thing would find some excuse to back down at the slightest hint of controversy. I don''t agree with many of Rick Warren''s positions, but I hope Obama sticks to his guns on this. The most effective politicians are the ones who can get opposing parties to find common ground.

These people who are upset by this choice, need to realise that Rick Warren is just doing a ceremony. He is not going to be part of the Obama administration.....

Well, I don''t believe that I ever said that he was a Muslim Socialist terrorist. I just did not care for him. (I didn''t really care for McCain either.) I hope that he does move to be a moderate, rather than too far left. And I also hope that he does not kowtow to Nancy Pelosi, and her power plays. I just don''t believe politicians when they talk about "change". The only real change in this world is going to start with each individual.

I''m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It''s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .
As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin'' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer''s Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man''s Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya'' Know
''Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That''s Why I Want You To
Know
I''m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I''m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah)
I''ve Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It''s Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They''re Not
Alone?
A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody''s Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya'' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That''s Why I''m Starting With
Me
(Starting With Me!)
I''m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I''m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

I''m Asking Him To Change His
Ways
(Change His Ways-Ooh!)
And No Message Could''ve

If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

Heart)
You Can''t Close Your . . .Your

That Man, That Man, That
Man, That Man
With That Man In The Mirror
(Man In The Mirror, Oh Yeah!)
That Man, That Man, That Man
I''m Asking Him To Change
His Ways

Gonna Feel Real Good Now!

Oh No, No No . . .
I''m Gonna Make A Change
It''s Gonna Feel Real Good!
Come On!
(Change . . .)
Just Lift Yourself
You Know
You''ve Got To Stop It.
Yourself!

That Man, That Man . . .

Gonna Make That Change . . .

ETA: After rereading I realize this could be taken the wrong way...I'm just joking!

Hahaha no worries! I actually thought the same thing...that would have been kind of hilarious if he did choose Wright!

You''re good Moon...so good!

I had been thinking the same thing about Rev. Wright!

Warren isn''t a bad guy, and the only reason he is high up on my personal annoyance radar is because he''s local and I run into his minions on a fairly regular basis. We refer to his church as Saddleback Cult.

Heh, I think everyone thought of Wright. That would have been hilarious.

Hitchens, the greater, wrote a nice piece about Warren.

Thing you can read it on my FB profile. Oh wow, random but that reminds me I saw these cute little kid outfits that were just like thing1 and thing2. I wanted to have a kid immediately just to put them in it!

Well, it beats the heck out of Rev. Wright. Hopefully it doesn''t mean he will have "A Purpose Driven Presidency". I have about as much respect for that ''tome'' as I do the whole "Chicken Soup for the Soul" drivel.

I think it would have been great if Billy Graham did it, but he is really not doing so well now.
