Hello All,

First post, first purchase, first everything that has to do with diamonds. And speaking of firsts, first off I''d like to thank everyone on here for all the excellent information. I didn''t know a thing about diamonds before reading all of this information. Now I feel like I have some sort of a chance to know what I''m actually buying. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So we''re picking out a diamond and I think we''ve found it. I would appreciate anyone''s comments as to what they think of it, and any other thoughts and information they think would be helpful or interesting to know.

Looks good.

Yup, love it!

Thanks very much for the positive comments. Really appreciate it.

I have a question about the ASET though. Can anyone give me some positive or negatives about this particular ASET image? I''ve been trying to compare it to other ASET images to get an idea on how to analyze ASETs, and therefore diamonds overall, but need some assistance. I''ve read up on what the colors mean, so that I get. But not how to put it all together to turn it into meaningful info. I''d appreciate it!

I'm also open to hearing about how to judge the diamond overall. I'm guessing (and hoping) its a good one, as I haven't heard any negative comments yet, but as to exactly why? I'm a bit short of info in that department. I really want to learn and educate myself, especially for future purposes, so any direction or comments would help. What exactly about it is good, or could be better? I'm on a budget that I think is peanuts compared to most, so I definitely know it isn't near to being the best. But I'd like to know what to look for when its upgrade time. She definitely deserves more when I can swing it. Thanks again!

That is a very beautiful Princess, love this one! Looking at your image, it can be seen that there is a good amount of red throughout the image which is concentrated more in the centre, but does reach out toward the corners. This is important to provide edge to edge light return. There is a small and evenly distributed amount of blue which helps provide contrast, also the diamond is showing to me excellent optical symmetry. Its a very lovely Princess!

See this link for further reading on ASET images.

The diamond is cut to the highest standards and this is proven with the images, also only certain diamonds of top cut are allowed to represent the ACA brand, personally I don''t think this diamond could be improved on, you have scored a home run! The ACA brands have cut consistency as part of that brand so if you decide to upgrade later, you could get another ACA Princess and get the same level of beauty and optical performance.

Wow! Thanks to you also Lorelei! Those are exactly the kind of comments I was looking for. I also learned a great deal with that link you provided me. It really helps to see the side by side comparisons of the ASET and Ideal-Scope images of different qualities.

In my newbie opinion, in reference to that page, it seems like mine is placed somewhere between high-performance and above average. It has the symmetry and closer color qualities of the high-performance, but some characteristics of the above average images as well. Or am I not looking at and judging them correctly? I don''t think the high-performance is necessarily an exact ideal, right? I mean, just because I have colors in slightly different spots doesn''t make it worse or better, does it? To be more specific, my diamond has that green X pattern in the middle (very technical, huh?

). How does that compare to the red X in the middle of the high-performance image? And does that make it less ideal? I also notice that the reds in the better example really fill the corners more than mine does. Is this a sign of better/worse or just a difference of look?

I gots a lot to learn, and very willing to listen

Very glad to help! You have a great diamond there, one of the finest cut diamonds in the world - ASETs can vary but overall it is the amount of ' desirable' light and its distribution that matters. The x is not an issue, also with the amount of red in an ASET image top both yours and the Infinity are top cut stones with slightly different ASETs, for example I like both chocolate and vanilla ice cream but don't feel one is better than another, they have their differences and so it can be with diamonds.
