Hello everyone,

I have been surfing the forums here fow some time now, and have found some great information on shopping for a diamond engagement ring. I have sorted through hundreds of diamonds online, and have found several nice ones. However, this particular caught my eye and fits my budget. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Report: AGS
Shape: Round
Carat: 0.652
Color: D
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61.3
Table: 54
Girdle: Medium to Slightly thick, faceted
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 5.58X5.63X3.43 mm
Crown angle: 34.1
Pavilion angle: 40.7

I scored it using the Holloway Cut Advisor, and got a .9 score, with excellent light return, excellent fire, excellent scintillation, and very good spread.

I also used the AGA charts, and it came back with a 1A grade in every category, with a 1A overall score.

The diamond will be placed in a platimum 6-prong solitaire setting. For this reason, I really wanted to keep the color in the D-F range.

I have found the diamond for just under $2800.

Any thought would be very welcome! I would really like to make a great purchase, and just want to know if anything sees something that might be a red flag that I''m missing. Thanks in advance!

Just wondering... have you looked into other color grades? Many people cannot see the difference between a D/E/F, and many people don''t mind the slight tint of a G/H/I. You could either save a lot of money by not getting a D, or you could get a bigger rock for the same money.

Just wondering if you''d considered that...

cushioncut,

I did consider other color grades at the beginning of my search, but after doing some research, I decided against going with anything lower than F. The diamond will be set in a platinum setting, where any kind of color is more apt to show up, versus being in a yellow gold setting. I did find some diamonds with an F color grade around the same carat, but they were only $100-$150 cheaper than the D grade ring. Plus, the cut on this ring scored slightly higher in Holloway and AGA.

Thanks for the thoughts! Appreciate all the help I can get.

This sure sounds like a beautiful stone. Ask for an idealscope picture and hearts and arrows pictures if it is supposed to be H&A.

lop,

I happened to call the online retailer who has that diamond, Blue Nile, and asked them if it was a H&A diamond. He replied it is considered such since it is an AGS triple 0. I asked the sales rep I talked to if they could do an idealscope picture and heart and arrows picture of it, if I were to purchase it. He didn''t think they could, and put me on hold just to check. He came back and replied that they do not do that, as part of their appraising. I suppose I could always take the diamond to an independent appraiser if I get the ring. I believe this is normally recommended when buying a diamond online anyways. Thanks for the input, lop!
