So I'm feeling like Julio Iglesias... To all the rings I've loved before.

10 years ago I saw a Debeer's ad with a ring with a princess center and pear sidestones and it was a revelation. All I'd seen before that was rounds or poorly cut fancies and I was 'blah' about diamonds. That ad changed my mind. Debeer's ad campaign works. LOL.

Someone on RT just asked for this combo and it took me back.

What was you first love? And what did you end up with?

First love (This is spe1901's ring):

My very first love was the Tiffany''s Lucida I tried on a .90ct H VVS2 and was like swoooon.

It was the first time I saw a diamond throw rainbows, a year and a bit later and a lot of research and searching I ended up with my Leon - which I still have to post hand pics for

Mine was when my mom received my great-grandmother''s wedding set after my great aunt passed away. Nothing like a 3.65ct diamond to make a 12 year old girl fall in love...

The first engagement ring I ever loved was an ajaffe ring that I found on the knot. My quest to find a photo of it on a real person led me to PS. It is now my engagement ring.

I have loved but one man, and one ring. This one.

Long ago and far away...no, that''s another story.

I had never been a jewellery lover or a an engagement ring admirer until my now DH and I were at the the Canadian National Exhibition in the early 60''s. DH, the cradle robber, had already asked the big question, but I had simply said that I''d think about it. The CNE is huge around Ontario, and millions used to converge every August for the ten day event. We were wandering around the Lifestyle building, when he saw a booth offering diamond rings and headed toward it. I followed, not really sure about the whole concept. I remember a salesman almost jumping on us asking what we''d like to see. I tried a couple of rings on, but nothing grabbed my attention. The one comment that he made really threw me: he said that no one will ask about the clarity and colour, all they want to know is the carat size.

Fast forward a year, we visited an independent jeweller who had a ring in the showcase that blew me away. It was a rb of about .63 carats flanked by tapered baguettes. That was the ring I really liked and it was the one I wore proudly for 35+ years.

Then I was lured into wanting something different by seeing all the choices there were on a jewellery forum...bad, bad, bad.

My first love was a diamond that the woman I babysat for had. It seemed huge (and probably was if area she lived in was any indicator), at least 1.5 carat pear set in yellow gold. I love the pear shape. When a boyfriend and I started shopping for rings I headed straight for the pears and fell in love with a .75-1 carat. He could afford the .75. I like the 1 carat because it''s such a nice number. At bluenile I would the perfect band, a ridged band of white metal. I also really liked ovals of the about the same size and with the same setting.

My actual engagement ring is an approx .46 round, which I swore I'd never have because it was too boring, with a tapered baguette on each side.

It seems quite a change in less than 3 years time.

(Whoa! That's a huge photo. Sorry about that.)

I first saw the Lucida when my friend and I decided to google Tiffanys in 2005-I fell in love with it and actually ran home to D and told him that I had seen the ring of my dreams. He looked it up and loved it too. Luckily that was the one that I ended up with.

First love... Emerald cut sapphire. I wanted BLUE! HATED diamonds. And then I saw some good ones, LOL.

I ended up with a .75 RB. And I love it.

I vividly remember falling HARD for the Tiffany Lucida - I ADORED that ring, would look at the pics on the Tiffany''s website ALL THE TIME.

Sadly, when we went for me to actually try it on, I didn''t like the way it looked on my hand at all

So now I have a three-stone, all rounds, and I think my dream ring/ultimate upgrade someday will be a three-stone as well - they just look best on my (small, but stubby

) hands...

Amusing story... I was in a serious relationship years ago... one that I thought would end up in marriage. At the time I was not really into jewelry, and I remember I had this antique heriloom ring I had since I was a kid. At the time it was appraised at 3.5K. I remember really liking this ring at Kay jewlers. It was a princess cut- channel set band in white gold. The center stone was suspended above the other diamonds in a bridge format. It was like 2K or so. I remember feeling as though I was settling because my heirloom ring was worth more than that ring- and felt as though my fiancee should spend more than that on my ring. He felt that the Kay ring was far too expensive. Sadly, no... we did not get married. Now I look back and laugh at how much less I could have been betrothed for! and how though adorbale, is something I would not want as a wedding ring now.

I also really liked the HW ring in legally blonde!

I remember my first e-ring love like it was yesterday

I was only 21 or so and had no urge to get married at all, but several of my friends/coworkers seemed to be getting engaged and it was the first time I noticed that there was actually a difference in diamonds (they come in different shapes?). I didn''t really feel strongly about any of them until...

A coworker of mine came in one autumn day sporting what she called an "asscher". Because I knew NOTHING about diamonds, I had no clue what size it was, etc. but looking back I''d guess it was about 2 carats and it was on a delicate bead-set eternity band. She saw it at an estate jewelry shop on a weekend trip and her fiance bought it for her without her knowing. I loved that it was vintage, I loved the hall of mirrors effect. I must have asked her to show it to me a half a dozen times and that was it for me. I''ve loved asschers ever since.

I have always loved my mom''s e-ring which was her great grandmother''s. That is probably why I love antique jewelry so much and I vow one of these days to remember to take a photo. Besides that seeing a Tacori ad in high school (didn''t stray too much). It was a diamond and sapphire setting and I remember thinking how unique and classy it looked. When I went to try on settings I hated the way it looked on my hand but the jeweler had a sample of my current setting. Took my breath away.

I had always loved diamonds--especially ECs--and there were a lot of settings I liked, but here is the one I first fell in love with (it belongs to momothree):

The first engagement ring I ever fell in love with was Princess Diana''s. Probably because it was hers.

dianaring001.jpg

The Lucida, my first e-ring.

An EC solitaire in a cathedral setting...I''d never actually seen one in person or even an ad for one, but a few websites had these "ring builder" features (maybe it was DeBeers?)...college, freshman year, my girlfriends and I were all bored and putting together e-rings (we didn''t even have boyfriends!)...and I fell in love for good.

It would be a few years until I saw a beautiful EC in person (but thank goodness one ended up on my finger!).

I first saw the first ring I loved when my friend was engaged, and I would look through the bridal magazines with her. It was a Whitney Boin ring, very different and modern from what I ended up with, which is a cushion with a tiny halo and bezel set band.

I was 18 and it was my first day working in a new job at a local jewelry store. I saw the most beautiful RB filligree ring, and it was over. I drew the most detailed picture I''d ever drawn before, and carried it around with me for years. The cool thing was that I showed my mom a picture of the ring, and she laughed and pulled out her engagement ring (she never wore it anymore). It was a near replica of my drawing.

It''s funny because I ended up choosing a very different engagement ring, it''s a cushion set on a shared-prong eternity band.

I don''t have that drawing anymore, so this is the best picture I could find. It''s from antique-jewelry-online.com.

I would have to say the same. I loved it and did not get one for my e-ring, but soon after I got an identical but smaller (of course!) ring like Diana''s for my right hand. I only regret that my sapphire is too dark. All the e-rings I knew about at the time were solitaires, and that was the symbol for an e-ring at the time I got married. I loved them then and still do. My 30th anniversary ring was a H&A stone in a Leon soltaire setting...so my taste stayed exactly the same (just greater size and quality!).

Gypsy, I fell in love with that ring too....I was all about the princess cuts about 7-8 years ago.

The Tiffany and Co solitaire. I saw it in my early 20''s. It was the first ring that made my heart skip a beat. To me everything about it was simple but beautiful. It is still one of my favorites, but there are a lot of other rings I love too.

This was my Dream Ring...it was actually the first ring that my hubby and I looked at in a really nice jewelry store in town. Of course it was way out our price range, but it still makes my heart sing.

Ditto all of that, except that I first saw it and fell in love with it when I was 15 or 16.

I don''t have a picture of it, but it was from a DeBeers ad in the 80s - it was an emerald cut with small sidestones (maybe rounds?) It was gorgeous! After that, I always thought that I wanted an EC until I saw my first asscher. Now that I''ve had an asscher, but got over my asscher thing, I would still love to have an EC someday. I love a ring like Zhuzhu''s 3-stone EC - just perfect!''

It''s funny, because I always thought that the lsat thing I would want is a round, but I think that''s because I had only ever seen "mall quality" rounds until I got on PS. Once I saw an H&A stone, I knew I had to have one, and now that I do, I love it!

I love your ring! The diamond is gorgeous & the baguettes complement it perfectly!

I''m a weirdo. I never coveted diamonds or stones until after I got engaged. When DH proposed, I was happy with whatever. Not anymore.

No wonder I''ve upgraded and changed so many times hence! I love so many rings now!

I first fell in love with a .75 princess solitaire and was in a very serious relationship but never received the ring. When DH and I started talking about marriage I asked for a round solitaire. I never imagined he would get me a 1.2 ct. I was in shock! If I were to choose right now it would be a pear. I fell head over heals for the shape a couple years ago but when I upgraded I decided to keep and use my original stone.

Thank you! It is pretty, but I can never seem to get it to photograph well. And I feel like I''m in the land of giants with an under 1/2 carat ring.
