I made my first Diamond purchase online today

. According to seller: D, Si2 0,64 ct round, 5,59 mm. Price: US$ 255 including insured shipping.
This is a experiment and I will get back with a full report as soon as I have it and have made a re-grading. Hopefully I will not be too dissappointed and embarrassed

I hope all goes well and I am anxious to see the outcome.

I suggest you get the ring appraised.

First of all, this is a loose diamond, not a ring and secondly I''m going to (down)grade it myself.
Actually I''m pretty sure the quality will not measure up when I grade it by other than ebay-standard

I''m just curious about how big a difference there is. The diameter says it might be OK cut wise. My guess is it will show up as a G, I1, with G/G at best for polish and symmetry. But we will see soon enough. Depends on how fast delivery I get.

Stone arrived friday and here is my judgement:

Carat: 0.70 (stated 0,64) Weighed on my Sartorius accurate to 0,005 ct.
Color: I (stated D)
Clarity: I1 (Si2 stated)
Cut: VG (not stated)
Measurements: 5,63x5,65x3,55 (stated 5,59 dia)
Depth: 63%
Crown: 17,8%
Pavillion: 41,6%
Table: 55%
Girdle: 3,5% faceted
Culet: Pointed
Polish: G
Symmetry: G

I really do not understand this. I had expected deviations to the clarity and color but not weight and measurements. My guess is that a D Si2 was out of the question as the price ended up this low. The seller then took what he/she had closest in weight but in a much lower quality. I do not care as I had no expectations whatsoever and the price is more than right for the stone anyway.

Additional $250 also bought me a 1.51 ct, H, I3 with laser "enhancement" which did no real difference to this stone even if the black has been etched out. Seven nice drilled holes in the table. Cavities reaching about 2/3 into the pavillion. Perfect as reference/educational stone.
Will take some images through the microscope when I get the camera mount for it.

This was a fun experiment.

That is a fun experiment. Looking forward to seeing photomicrographs of the laser drill channels and cavities.

I actually received an ebay auction stone yesterday--an old european cut. An experiment of sorts

--but really hoping it would work out for a ring, and it did! It was sold to me as an H VS2 .75, and I graded it (mounted) as I-J VS2 and .82ct by weight estimation. A fun score!
