After much thought, reading, and shopping around, I have found the stone that I believe is it.

I would love to hear your thoughts. It is a round 1.7 ct, color E, premium cut, SI2. Total depth 61.2%. table 61%. crown angle 34.5. Pavilion 41%. girdle medium - thick. Dimensions 7.62x7.67x4.67.

Thanks so much!

Lots of looks but no replies. Kind of makes me nervous!

More info/photos? Or report number + exact ct wt

Have you seen it? What did you think? Is it eyeclean to your specifications (if you haven't seen it decide what that means to you - clean from 6" face-up, from 12"? and have the vendor vet it to your requirements)

Yes, I've seen it, and it's eye clean. That's all I have for info. I really love it, which I suppose should be enough. Just nerve wracking to make the final decision.

Super shallow pav ~39.4deg, don't know how/if the percent is rounded though. And I'm not getting that depth without adding a hefty girdle percent.

Have you compared it to other stones of similar size with different proportions in a variety of lighting types? You can find lots in the jewellery store - under the counters, of course, in the diffuse back office lights, in the sunlight by a window, in the dimness under a desk...

ETA: You likely aren't getting many responses because it's not one we'd recommend from the numbers, and since that's all we have to go on that's really all we can give you I'm afraid!

Ok, thank you, Yssie.

Good luck!

Yssie? I just wanted to say thank you for telling me the truth. I'm not going to feel like I really have the one until people on this forum say well done. I'm very much a novice, and I appreciate what people here have to say-it gives me peace of mind.

The biggest thing about this ring is that I'm not in a hurry. I've never been so patient in my life.

No worries GEL. I'm usually one to advise others to trust their eyes, because I myself have preferences outside what most on here would recommend, but there is an objective decline beyond the plateau on which we debate best and bestest!

You'll get lots of good info on here if you stick around, so it's good that you aren't in a hurry ::) Do you want us to poke around for you online, or are you looking to buy strictly in-person?

I have looked online and found some very nice stones. However, I would very much like to buy in person.

GEL, when I came here 6 years ago, I honestly did try to buy locally. But they just did not have access to many or any ideal cut stones. I had to go an hour away just to see a Hearts on Fire diamond to see a super ideal cut stone. Those, of course, were crazy overpriced, so it did make me feel much better when I did finally find a stone online. I ordered two stones and returned them, and then I ordered two from Good Old Gold and kept one of those. Later I bought earring stones from WhiteFlash. I wouldn't even look at diamonds locally now, because I know their best stones are not all that great in big picture.

Be sure you limit your local search to GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal cut stones and you'll be headed in the right direction. And then, as Yssie, said, we can still separate the best from the wide GIA Ex category!

I recommend sticking with GIA Ex for cut or AGS0, but GIA will be easier to find. If you stick there, you can use your eyes to pick a diamond IMO. If you want more assurance, use the HCA to help vet your picks, entering the crown and pavilion angles and table and depth.

Next, try to get a good balance of color and clarity for your budget. To *me* E and SI2 is emphasizing color too much and clarity not enough. If in person, you can indeed buy and SI2, but I worry that in person walking around in real life you could see inclusions that you cannot see at first.

Make sure you have a return period of at least a week with a no questions asked cash refund, in wiritng, so you can live with the stone and know it is the one.

Does this seem like a good one?

Yes, it could be good! GIA rounds measurements, so the numbers aren't exact on the cert. I would ask James Allen for an idealscope image and ask their gemologist to inspect the stone for eye cleanliness, etc. We can analyze the idealscope image if you report back here.

This one seems like a great one too. Thoughts?

That one could be risky by the numbers (it could be a bit of a steep deep) and without images, there's no real way to be sure. Blue Nile doesn't provide images or idealscope unfortunately. Also, the strong blue fluor would need to be checked out. There's nothing wrong with buying from Blue Nile, but I'd go with safer numbers if you're going to buy from them.
