Hey guys ;) i decided to post up pics of my loose diamond
3.gif

I first want to thank all of you who helped me and having to put up with my newbie questions
20.gif

Anyone who have read my threads know that the journey to finding this diamond was not easy
14.gif
I finally found one and love it, it didn''t score that well on the gemex report
15.gif
but i know that cushion shape don''t have the brilliance like round ones, to be totally honest i wished it sparkled more... because I brought it through an online vendor i wasn''t able to see it, and relied on the numbers (which i know doesn''t work with cushions) but it was all i had.

cushion modified brilliant
7.60 x 6.51 x 4.34mm
1.68ct
E, vs2
polish and symmetry: very good
Flor: sb
culet: small
table / depth: 61%, 66.7%
girdle: thin - slightly thick faceted

The one thing that bothers me the most is the bow tie that is clearly visble, and looking through an ice- scope it looks like 4 dark arrows going across. Looking at the diamond in normal light, it doesn''t look so noticable, but you can tell that it doesn''t reflect so much light in that area
7.gif
the camera makes it look more sparkly then it really is,. but then againi haven''t taken it outside yet, it has been only inside. I hope this bowtie grows on me.. but anywhoo.. i know how u guys love looking at new diamond pics, so here is mine enjoy
4.gif
!

the pic didn''t attach! Can''t wait to see the stone. If you can, post the facet plot also!

I love seeing new cushions!

here you go yellowsparkles ;) hopefully the plot is clear enough

there is one crystal on the left, and one at the bottom

here is the last one on my hands, this is what i''m talking about the visble bowtie ;(

hope you guys enjoy the pics ;)

Congrats to you.! Looks good. I am so glad I went with a cushion myself.

Wow, its lovely. The bowtie wouldn''t bother me at all. I have to run and take my daughter to preschool, but I will examine it later!
36.gif

In the meantime, feel free to post more pics!!

Gorgeous cushion!!! I''m really loving the chunky facets.......hmmmm.......I wonder if cushions are going to replace Ecs for me....

Hi ma1lyc,

I''m not sure how long you''ve had this, but are you still within a return period? I ask because you don''t sound very happy, at all.

I would suggest getting it in as many lighting environments as possible first, and then if you''re not absolutely loving it, I''d send it back and try again. You should be totally happy with a purchase like this!

I agree with Ellen. From the pics, it is a lovely stone. You have to decide if the bowtie really bothers you (if you can still return it). If not, embrace the bowtie a la Cehra!

I agree with Ellen, you don''t seem happy at all, and that is a pretty big area that is dark on the stone. If you are still within the return period you might want to do so...

What vendor did you end up going with?

I love it, "bow-tie" and all because this "bow-tie" is the one that lights up in the right conditions ala the arrows in a RB. However, if you don''t like it, then you don''t like it. Have you talked to your vendor about this? Continue to check it out in various lighting during the return period. If at the end of it, it still bothers you, then return it and keep searching.

Two things:

1. I think bowties are underrated. At least some of them are. You know the two most common ways to get rid of them? Reorient the facets or cut a bunch more little facets around to scatter the light. They are powerful things, this is true... they will return what they see. Good news is, if they see pretty things, so do you :) I have video of my bowtie of solar flares of light. But in general use I stopped seeing it after I gave in to the fact it was my favorite part of the stone. I wanted to not like it because I kept reading about horrible bowties. Well, sometimes it does look dark in the middle (like when I''m wearing black which is actually fairly frequent) but what it *does* more than makes up for that.

2. You don''t at all seem happy. You seem happy to be in posession of a diamond, for sure! But you seem disappointed in it. I was disappointed in mine at first because I expected it to have more evenly sized/spaced pav mains and then I got this weird looking bowtie stone and was like ugh.... but it never failed to wow me with sparkle and that''s maybe the one thing you said above that hit me.... you wish it sparkled more. Honey, there are more fish in the sea! If this frog isn''t a prince, throw the baby out with the bathwater! lol!

And one question:

Did you get ASET and IS info? And what were the scores on gemex for white/fire/scint? which was highest? which did you want to be highest?

I am sorry that you are not as happy with the stone as you should be...I, however, think that it is a lovely cushion!

I think it is a beautiful stone. In certain lights any non-symmetrical fancy (cushion, pear, marquise, oval, etc) is going to show its bowtie more prominently than others. The question is, will you be okay with that?

hey guys
41.gif
thanks so much for the comments

I have a 30 day return policy, overall the stone itself is beautiful but yeah.. i do wish it was more sparkly. Although perhaps i''m jumping on the diamond too quickly, i''ve only seen it in doors. It hasn''t been outside yet or been seen on a nice sunny day, for the last couple of days it has been cloudy and raining non stop in Toronto
32.gif
. Hopefully the clouds will clear and i can take it out too see how it looks, perhaps it would be more sparkly then.

Neatfreak: I ended up going with diamondexchange.ca, recommended from another Canadian buyer on here. I really wanted to go with Mark as suggested on here, but my fi was not comfortable with buying online
15.gif
so we went with diamond exchange, that way we were buying a GIA cert stone online and will be able to pick it up at their office and view it through the equipment they had available. So i guess we found something that worked best for my fi and i, getting a better selection of GIA stones online for me at a good price, and having a head office close by incase of anything for my fi. Overall working with Shaun from Diamond exchange has been the most wonderful experience, I never felt pressured and he answered all of my questions, updated me on any information in a timely matter, and supplied me with any kind of documents i needed for the diamond. If anyone has read my other thread about other vendors you would know what horrible vendors i''ve had to deal with, and shady ones at that
38.gif
But thank you so much neakfreak, you''ve been very helpful during this diamond search
36.gif
It has been a very emotional ride going through this whole process
20.gif

thanks so much you guys, you made me feel alot better about the bowtie
4.gif
i''m going to wait to see what it looks like on a nice sunny day to make my final decision, i will be sure to take some pics. If everything works out well, hopefully i can start working on my setting
36.gif
of course i will update you guys on that as well
37.gif

Definitely give it a few days - you''ve got plenty of time.
1.gif

Good idea to at least wait to see it on a sunny day. You''ll know in your heart what the right decision is.

But I''m confused, you said you bought it sight unseen from an online vendor but went to pick it up??? Couldn''t you have just viewed it along with a few others at his office before you were committed to one stone? That''s what most vendors will allow you to do...

Hi cehrabehra ;) sorry i''m still a newbie lol i''m not sure what this means
34.gif

as for the scores, the highest was fire, and brillance and sparkle was between med and high. I guess i wanted brilliance and sparkle to be high, I can see now what people are talking about when looking at the specs for cushions; what looks good on paper doesn''t really apply like it does for rounds, you need to see it in person. Although it does perform better in real life then is reported on gemex.. how well does gemex grade lighting performance?

An Aset Image or IS (Idealscope) image gives you a picture of the light return on a diamond. Most recommend seeing these images before buying a diamond (unless you are looking at diamonds in person). While not perfect, these images are the best way to detect bowties etc. without actually being able to see the diamond.

yup i brought it sight unseen, so I picked it out of the many specs online and picked it up at their office when it was delivered there. Their office in toronto only had loose rounds to see, they didn''t have any cushions. All of their diamonds are at their inventory office in new york.

Gorgeous stone!!!!

I dunno, I really don''t have much experience with gemex, but I have talked to people who think its a crock (and others who believe in it). I was hoping for the highest for my stone in fire, next in scint, then lastly in brilliance (at the time I thought of brilliance as the white light return thing which I''ve since found isn''t exactly right...) and my stone did score ex on the fire thing, I think he said, "Obviously it disperses light very well" LOL But he also said it was VG for brilliance but only G for scint which disappointed me - it doesn''t have an "on" "off" thing like some rounds do, it kinda goes through all of the varying intensities of grey as well (but grey meaning colors too lol) but my stone definitely sparkles, even indoors. its more of a lumpy big sparkle of pastel colors than a sharp on off splintered look of a round, but it isn''t a dark fish that just lays there - or even a bright fish that lays there like my earrings. My earrings are like white dots, like hole punch debris LOL They return white light sooooooooooo well but they have no sparkle at all, barely any at least, and ditto fire - just...

anyway, the aset and idealscope are tools you can search on here and find more info than you''d care to have LOL They both evaluate light return, but for fancies you might find the aset more useful (and more expensive).

Take it to resturants and grocery stores too, also under a shady tree, besides in the sun.

And under candlelight, this type of cut was made specifically to perform under candlelight (being the primary light sorce of the era when they were first cut!).

Thank you so much for posting this stone, I had stumbled upon a stone with the same facet plot as this one and I was wondering what it looked like in real life. If possible, can you post a pic looking directly down that really shows the cutlet at the bottom of the diamond?

I wish you the best of luck finding the perfect diamond, if this is not the one!

I don''t know if I would agree to this - this is a modified for one... and most of these new stones are cut a bit more for overhead light than the truly antique stones were.... I don''t know the crown height on this either. The antique OMC stones were cut for this, you''re right, but this stone is a modern cousin of that and I don''t know... some of these modified cushions are *definitely* cut for modern light!
