Hi all,

It has finally come to setting decision time. I thought this would be the easier part, but I am indecisive and torn. So I was hoping to get the opinion of anyone and everyone. I've talked to my special GF, but she likes the idea of a surprise and letting me decide as it is from me to her.

So please respond to my poll and your thoughts on why.

The wedding band for the fishtail pave with the matching fishtail 3/4. If I get the solitaire I will need more help. I was thinking the 3/4 eternity with a spacer between the E-ring and band or get the same fishtail pave with the solitaire. I'm not sure how this would look though.

The diamond will be around 1cts as well. Still sourcing this, but working with BGD who has been great.

Anyways: Option 1 Solitaire 6 prong

Option 2 6 prong Fistail Pave

I like option 1. It's classic and elegant, and it works well with a range of wedding bands. I could see it with a plain band, a sparkly seven or nine-stone, which she could wear on its own when she wants some sparkle without risking the ering, such as while at an airport, etc. Am I the only one who's irrationally terrified of pulling a prong while dealing with suitcases?

Does she want you to pick the wedding band too? Or just ering?

I like option 2.

Also picking out our wedding bands was something hubby and I did together . It was fun to try rings on together -

Thank you for responding! I do agree nice 3/4 eternity would be very nice. I see this combination here on PS and really like it. My concern is the diamond will be much smaller than some. around 1ct. So I worry it won't have as dramatic of an effect of a 1.5ct+

Thank you so much again!

I like the diamond band of the ones you have posted. The Tiffany is a classic, of course, but for me it's kind of boring.

If you want a plain solitaire do you like either of these: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/elegance-platinum-5415p or http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/grace-18k-white-gold-5414w18 (in whatever metal you like).

I just think they are more unique.

Hi Gypsy,

Thank you for your input. It is greatly appreciated. I too, think there is something boring about the solitaire, but love the classic-ness behind a solitaire showing off the main diamond then flashing it up a bit with an eternity band.

I do like the fishtail but BGD recommends buying both at the same time to have them match. This is one of my cons because it is an extra 3k, instead of later which it will be about the same price even for an eternity band, now and my GF won't have any input on her wedding band.

How do people feel about this? Do you think wedding band purchase should be a together purchase? I do think it would be an enjoyable process and would love to do this with her. Even though I might try and persuade an eternity band. haha The PS side of me.

Thank you again!

Thank you for your input! It is greatly appreciated for your time to respond. I think it is just the e-ring. When I mentioned the wedding band there was no definitive objections if I got it, but it's a large purchase and would like her to get 1 ring she really likes. Incase I do not do well with the e-ring. I hope I'm safe with either option. Ladies thoughts?

Thank you again to everyone!

Funny enough, I have contemplated the exact BGD settings you've posted! When my fiance proposed, he had my diamond set into a plain 14k white gold solitaire (knowing that I hadn't made up my mind on a permanent setting).

For a moment, I was convinced to go with the pave option, but I have now decided that I prefer the plain solitaire (that's the one I voted for). The thing is, tastes do change over time, and the beauty of a solitaire is that your gf/fiance/wife will have the option of mixing it up with different wedding bands. A blingy 7 stone for when you go out, a plain band for travel, a thin pave band for everyday, etc.

Unless she has told you that she loves pave or has really admired a pave setting (a friend's or relative's), I think the plain solitaire is the way to go!

I forgot to add that I also think BGD's "Tiffany style" 6 prong is the prettiest stock option available (it's similar to Victor Canera's design). I've compared it to WF, JA, and Vatche's versions and, personally, I like it the best.

Definitely wait on the WB so you can choose the wedding bands together! It is a lot of fun and that way she gets input on what she is going to be wearing every day. Good luck and congratulations. :appl:

And I like the solitaire option re the ER. Though the only opinion that counts (IMO) is that of your future FI since she will be the one wearing it.

Hi vsp08,

Thank you very much for responding. I did reach out to victor as well for his price/diamonds. They just were not economically feasible to me, right now. I admire his work and I am very glad to hear the BGD is one of your favorites.

In the end did you end up with the half round 6 prong? If so pictures are welcomed :)

The idea of stacking, getting a 7 stone/bezel or the BGD sapphire diamond in the future does allow for endless possibilities, but would you consider the 2 fishtail paves a lot more blingy than a solitaire/diamond eternity? Or just a touch.

Thanks again!!

BTW If I do go with the solitaire I like this wedding band, I would need to convince and get her thoughts as well http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/the-dream-3/the-dream-3/4-eternity-platinum-5416p

It is noted it sits pretty low and works well with their solitaires. I might adjust the .05 down a bit to maybe .04. But thoughts just talk, need to settle in on the setting.

I love the Dream Band. Great choice.

I haven't re-set my diamond yet, but I did just buy a 7 stone wedding band (10 pointers), and I absolutely love it with my solitaire.

I doubt going down to 4 pointers will reduce the cost much as it will become a custom order. When I was still interested in the pave setting, I asked about reducing the number of diamonds by 8 (to make it more of a half eternity) and the difference in price was nominal.

I think 5 pointers with a 1 carat center will look amazing. Here is my 1.42 carat with my wedding band.

Very, very nice!

I do enjoy your wedding set, a lot. I do worry that 1ct will look really small after looking at all of the 1.3+ solitaires! They all look so nice and huge!

Thank you for taking the time to post your set! It's stunning!

My choice would be the six prong classic setting. I think the six prongs make a stone look more round and therefore larger. I think the pave band would blend in too much with your stone.

I also love the Dream Band paired with the solitaire setting. It's a clean, timeless and elegant look IMO. My choice is always minimal shiny metal with gorgeous diamonds. Not everyone's choice of course - but it is my opinion!

Thank you MissGotRocks.

I do like both a lot and until the wedding band is worn with the classic solitaire I worry it won't be as "blingy" as everyone I would hope.

I think the slight worry in me is when a friend/family member sees it they might think it is not super extravagant and blingy. However, I'll know it is a super ideal cut diamond that I spent months researching and means the world to me. Once the eternity band is with it, it should have the extra flash. However, the Pave instantly provided this.

Thank you again for everyone's input. It is greatly appreciated!

I'm kind of leaning towards the solitaire now after knowing I wanted the pave a month ago.. Anyone have the half round 1ct?

Thanks again!

Here is a thread with a 0.81 carat diamond in the BGD Tiffany half round.

Here is one with a 0.99 carat diamond.

If you keep searching you'll be able to find a few pictures of the Tiffany setting with the dream wedding band. The dream band looks amazing. It's very low set and the quality of the diamonds is as good as it gets.

Thank you! I thought the one was tapered, the .99, but it's not. I had been starring at Google images too long of the BGD half round!

I'm starting to worry a bit now that a 1ct will appear really small on a size 7.75 finger :( Hopefully, BGD pulls through with a nice diamond for me. I should have moved down to SI1 and went up in size. I guess we'll see soon.
