There are a number of film/movie buffs/enthusiasts amongst the Pricescope community; let's share what takes your fancy please.

Shortly before I went to Vancouver, I watched Inside Out 2 (very good).

When I was in Vancouver for 5 weeks, I watched the following in a cinema, all at the Cineplex in Metrotown/Metropolis as it was easy for me to travel there by Skytrain:

Transformers One (don't judge me please :lol-2:, and I found it enjoyable)
We Live In Time (kind of a weepy)
Conclave (very good)
Here (quite clever, kind of sentimental, not quite a weepy for me personally)

I ate lots of salted (they did not do mixed sweet and salted popcorn which was a shame) popcorn with butter sauce, yum!

I have booked to see Paddington in Peru next week, even though the reviews are not that favourable.

I wanted to go and see Alien: Romulus; however, I am a wuzz and not keen on the genre of slashy horror films!

DK :))

Actually, none.
Seeing films that way has too many downsides for me.

Among them ... smelling increasingly stinky food of others sitting too close, overpriced unhealthy food, listening to phone calls and facing lit up phones, crowds :knockout: , waiting in line, paying yet being forced to see commercials on the big screen, obscene ticket and refreshment prices and bringing food even water forbidden, no pause and rewind button, volume too high and not controllable, people in front of you with big hats or big hair, being stuck - I'm not going to walk out when a film sucks because I had to pay so much to get in, whereas with streaming I can just sample the beginning of many films to decide which is worth my time.

When I went to see Here, it was a weekday early afternoon show and I was the only person in the auditorium.

I prefer to go at quieter times, especially if it is a film aimed at the younger audience.

Wish we could have butter (even butter-flavoured) sauce in the UK!

DK :))

We took the girls to see Paddington in Peru last weekend. I think they were the oldest children in the cinema at almost 14 & almost 16, but it was quite a good film.

I’d quite like to watch Heretic, because……. Hugh Grant…….. :kiss2:

DH began wearing hearing aids in fall of 2019. We didn't happen to go to the cinema between then and the start of the pandemic, and didn't want to go during the pandemic either. We have not gone back since, even though the Covid level in wastewater is "Low" now in CT, per the CDC.
(For folks in the USA, here is here to check what it is in your state: https://www.cdc.gov/nwss/rv/COVID19-statetrend.html)

We discussed whether we wanted to go see Twisters at the cinema when it came out this summer, but decided not to. Partly due to cost; borrowing the DVD from the library is free, and we don't care if it means we wait a few months to see it; in fact I borrowed it from the library just yesterday.

But our main reason is that DH needs the captions on when we watch TV or a DVD at home. His hearing loss is significant and affects the frequency range for speech. Without the aids he mishears what people say. The volume at the cinema is often too loud and not only would speech be amplified, so would all the other sounds. Obviously a problem in a film that is bound to be noisy anyway.

never go anymore...didnt go much to begin with it...we just either buy or rent current movies on our TV and stay at home in sweats and an adult beverage ;)2

definatly no judgement on Transformers
please report back (Ironhide is my favourite)

i have been to the pictures once since we moved here and before covid, we have a 3 multiplex housed in an old art deco picture theatre building
there are actually 4 screens, the one i went to was the smaller 20 seat theatre- it was great but i was a bit bummed out when one other person arrived !

i think for me if i go to the movies i go to them more often because i see whats coming

we often dont get all the movies here, its weird as the last one i wanted to watch was screened in the smaller towns but not ours but as the only movie theatre in town they do their best to screen a mix of blockbusters, kid's movies and art house
i looked on the site just now and dont see anything coming up that interests me too much
im pretty sure you are still not allowed to take food not brought at the theatre into a movie - ours does not have a cafe, nor a liquor licence, so just the usual popcorn, choc topped icecreams and lollies (sweets)
interestingly one of the neighbouring towns had to ban PJ's (a very backwayd place) and gumboots
when i was a wee girl we used to dress up to go to the movies
back in the day Queen Mary would wear a smaller tiara !

last week i ment to look to see if they were playing any good war movies for armistice day but i forgot

One of the cinemas that I frequent does adult beverage as in cocktails!

DK :lol-2:

I really want to go see the second Venom movie. I'm into all those superhero, anti hero, horror movies etc but with two kids and no one to babysit it's unlikely hubby and I will be able to go the the cinemas. Even at home we can barely get through a movie without the kids waking every 10 minutes haha.

I actually enjoy Transformers movies too! =)2

Not all of them as the latter ones are mainly CGI with not much of a plot or acting IMHO.

Spin-offs like Bubblebee and Transformers One were good though.

If I HAD Tto watch a film on a movie theater big screen I would want to see:

"The Sound of Music"

"The Wizard of Oz"

My DH's answer is "Lawrence of Arabia" (I never saw this movie)

"2001 A Space Odyssey"

Ben Hur,

Jason and the Argonauts

Probably add Singing In The Rain to the list.

I never go to the movies where I live at this point. I either have to drive 30 minutes to my hometown, or I go when I’m on vacation if it’s rainy.

The movie theater chain AMC ran 4/5 theaters in my current city and all of them are now either closed or in a state of disrepair. I’m in a Big 10 university town in the Midwest, and now I have to drive to my little podunk hometown to enjoy their 2 well-appointed and well-kept theaters. It’s ridiculous and it really honks me off. I used to really enjoy going to the movies—for me it was a treat, and then when my daughter was old enough to be impressed by the big screen and the experience of going to the movies, I had even MORE fun. Now? Now it’s just kind of a chore.

In all fairness I gotta add, I lovED the big screen!
That is, before they were ruined (for me) by the cons mentioned above, especially F-ing dumbphones, and the end of manners in America.

We live in Los Angeles County, the heart of Movieland.
In the 80s and 90s we'd drive to Hollywood, Burbank, Westwood, and Santa Monica, the epicenter of moviemaking.
It's also where the workers, actors, and members of the Academe in all aspects of filmmaking lived, and went TO the movies.

Seeing films in those massive spectacular roaring 20s Art Deco theaters filled with enthusiastic, yet considerate and I'd even say serious, film lovers was sublime.
I really miss the experience ... and oooh those state of the art sound systems. :eek2:

I'm lucky to have this experience before it vanished.

OK, not on a big screen in a cinema/movie theatre then.

After it won an award at Cannes it apparently went straight to TV. I think its uniqueness wouldn't have wide audience appeal which I assume is why it didn't go to cinemas.

I'll watch it regardless.

I plan to see Wicked.

I did feel kind of sad when their friendship ended. :(2

And I loved how John Hamm hammed it up as Sentinel Prime (apologies for the pun)! :lol-2:

I haven't been to a cinema in a few years but this thread makes me want to see what's playing. We have a nice one here that has well spaced out reclining chairs and menus, with someone who comes around to take your order for a meal or snacks and drinks (alcoholic, too). We never had the noise and annoyance issues there that are so common in regular cinemas.

Speaking of, does anyone remember when they used to have ushers in movie theaters, who would come shine a light in your face and scold you in front of everyone, if you acted up?
