Hello Everybody, I've been following the posts on PS for a long time now. I've finally decided to take the plunge and get an engagement ring for my lovely GF. I just received my diamond from Bluenile the other day and I wanted to get everyone's take on if it was a good deal or not. I think I got a good deal, but it would be nice to see what others had to say. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Price: $6,903
1.29 ct
Color E
Clarity SI2 (eyeclean though!)
Cut, Symmetry, and Polish all excellent
Girdle - Medium to Slightly thick, 4% faceted
Fluorescence - Medium Blue
Measurements 6.97 x 7.00 x 4.29 mm
HCA - Scored a .8
- Depth % 61.4
- Table - 57%%
- Crown Angle 34.5
- Pavilion Angle 40.8%

I assume you have eye-balled it yourself? What do you think?

Factoring in the general stats (excl generally the girdle) it is a winner for the price, but it is what you think!

Why are there no pics?

Thanks for the reply Steal. Yeah I have eyeballed it and even looked it over with a 20x loupe and I am very satisfied with the way it looks. Sorry about not having pictures, Bluenile doesnt provide any pictures and I'm actually embarrassed to say I don't have a working camera right now.

I guess I just wanted some assurance that a similar stone is NOT out there for much less.

That no-camera excuse doesn't wash for long around here. People will hunt you down for pictures! ;))

FYI, weekends are slow on PS, so others should come in next week if you bump it up.

My RB D VS1 1.014 was about $9k so work out the maths on that....

May I ask, how are you checking eye-clean? Did BN make any comment - they often drop ship so just make sure you are happy there are no visible inclusions. Actually taking a good picture ( ) and blowing it up is a good idea to see if you can spot any inclusions based on the map then seeing if you can spot them again with the naked eye; once you know what you are looking for.

Are you thinking about a setting yet?

Welcome to PS, hope you stay around!

Depends on who graded the stone. If it's GIA, I'd say it sounds like a good price given the specs, and it should be a beautiful stone with the HCA score of 0.8.

Great point. I just assumed it would be AGS/GIA.

ditto. the grading lab contributes to the price point at well. With a score of .8 on HCA it is excellently cut.

have you used the PS search feature to find comparable stones and see the offered prices?

Thanks for all the replys! Yes the diamond is GIA certified. I have looked around to see if there were other diamonds with comparable specs for around the same price. In general, I've noticed that those priced around $7k and lower had lower grades for polish, symmetry and scored above a 2 on HCA

The 9k pricepoint seems like a great price for your diamond Steal! I've just inspected the stone from top down, from the sides, and the bottom as well. As mentioned before, I have a loupe that I've also used to inspect the diamond -- i am quite pleased with how clean the stone is considering it is a SI2. I was honestly super worried that the diamond would be a let down, but thankfully it looks amazing.

I am thinking about pairing the 1.29 ct diamond with the Aria Petite Cathedral Engagement Ring from Bluenile in platinum - http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-setting-platinum_15188.. I've actually been lucky enough to see the setting in person and I think it would be perfect.

that is a very classic setting. It will certianl go with any wedding band your FI decides on down the road.

may I suggest an integrated cathedral setting? If you look at some of the pictures of recently purchased rings, you will notice the 'gap' between the band and the head. I personally am not a fan of this look

interesting, thanks for the observation. I always just assumed that the band and the head would touch with all ring settings, but i guess not. i'm not personally bothered about it, but i wonder what the GF would think. does this gap bother anybody else???

Agree 100% - it's also a point where clothing or something could snag. I noticed that the third stock pic of the setting has a different head, with a bar going across about halfway down. You could ask BN if they could connect the shoulders of the ring to the bar so there wouldn't be a gap. Does that make any sense? It's hard to describe these things.

Good point!

One thing I want to clarify about what I said earlier...part of what bothers me is the shoulders of the cathedral setting catching on clothing as I mentioned, but it also bothers me aesthetically. There's something that seems unfinished about a non-integrated cathedral. Just my opinion, but something to think about.

i wanted to ask everyone about their experience with how sparkly their diamond is in normal settings such as your homes. I've taken the diamond out to random places like a coffee shop or a restaurant, and the diamond sparkles like crazy. But i've noticed when its in my house, the sparkle are much more subdued. Do you think this is more of a lighting issue, or should a diamond with my specs be sparkling like crazy regardless of the lighting and where it is? Thanks in advance everybody!

Yeah, it's just the lighting.
