Feeling underwhelmed and disheartened

Hi Everyone,

So I have been searching for a yellow pear shaped diamond in the 0.50-0.60 Carat range to put in a halo for a ring. I went to some jewellers the other day as i had the opportunity to go to a jewelry district in a different city. I had a look at 0.50 carat pears and im so underwhelmed and disappointed on how small they look, even with a halo even with me 4.25 size finger! I got really disheartened, ok so i wasn't expecting them to be a ginormous rock but I thought they would look slightly bigger, atleast slightly bigger than a RB. But the difference wasnt that much. The 0.60 carats didnt make a huge impression either.

Now I dont know what to do :( I dont want to go over my budget as Im not in a position in my life to blow alot of cash on jewelry, I had put some money aside for a diamond pendant and a yellow diamond ring. But now i feel whats the point, its not going to have a wow factor.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of setting, would look make it look slightly bigger, possibly a airline?
I was thinking of maybe having a double halo, with the inner halo made out of yellow diamonds but doing that might go over my budget.

I guess I had higher exceptions, and I just had to deal with reality. :(

What is your budget?

What does "wow factor" mean to you? Is it strictly size? Is it about the comments that your piece will elicit? Is it how you will feel when you gaze at it?
If it is indeed size, my advice would be to save more money until you can get the size you want, instead of investing money into a setting that you are not sure of.

How about a double halo? This one has a .35ct centre stone and has a lot of presence on the hand. It's from Diamonds by Lauren.

hmm.. if its the size, what would you think about maybe a marquise? they face up large, and as a person who has had a pear AND a marquise of pretty much the same ctw, i can say that it is noticeable. A double halo would also make the difference, because it will exaggerate all aspects of the shape, including the less noticeable pointy sides.

Also they are quite similar shapes.... maybe something to consider...Im sort that they didn't live up to your imagination. :blackeye:

So I could save to get a bigger diamond but I don't feel like I should be spending that much on jewellery.

I feel I'm not wowed not just because of size but how it looks on my finger. Maybe it could be the type of settings etc or the quality of the diamond. My inspiration was based on a lot of the lovely halo pears on here! Which happen to be 1ct + maybe I was just expecting something similar.

My budget (shy) possibly being unrealistic to expect what I want with my budget is £2500.

Definitely do the double halo with yellow matching your center stone and white diamond outer halo. That will double the size appearance of the center stone! Example of this with a round:

It is true, though, that this will mean a custom setting, so your setting could cost more than the diamond.

My advice to you is always to wait and get what you really want. It is worth saving longer to do the piece right. Otherwise, I would suggest buying a colored stone ring because you can get a lot more for the moeny.

Neil that seems like a nice pear but it's i1 eeek!

I am no fan of halos but the proportions on the double halos pictured here (pink and yellow) are really perfect and well set. :appl:

Have emailed DBL! with my budget and ring idea...hopefully I will get some kind of idea, if a double halo is doable.

The other option is leaving :(sad it for a while until im in a position to buy a larger diamond.

Zahzah I have the same finger size and know how you feel! I had a 70 point solitaire and felt the finger coverage was terrible (around 5.6mm diameter). I can vouch for the fact that halos make a world of difference. I think you'll love the look of it or a double halo.

That dbl yellow halo is tdf! Great find ds! Fingers crossed it works out for you!!

I'd wait until you can afford exactly what you want. If the DBL ring isn't doable, don't settle for smaller...

I'm really glad you contacted DBL, this is their specialty for sure! I also agree with Gypsy as well, if what you want is above budget just keep saving and wait, it'll be worth it to have what you really want!

I agree to wait if you need to. One thing I have learned the hard way, and I think people who participate in this forum are similar, we want what we want. Interested to hear what DBL says...

Awesome! I imagine it is doable, but even if you had to wait, it would be worth it! Most of us have wishlists and we have to wait to be able to buy the things we really want. The mistake is buying a bunch of insignificant things that we don't really love instead of saving for the things we really do love. Waiting has rewards, so don't be sad if you have to wait!

Please don't forget to factor in the p+p costs and the VAT (I think you must be in the UK, you mentioned £??). These can add a fair amount to the total, although it's still usually much cheaper buying from the US!

PS i really hope you get what you want- I have a DBL ring I bought preloved and it is beautiful....

Thanks for the advice! Il see the options david provides. If I'm not in love with it il decide to put it on hold for a while And save a little more. But double halo with inner yellow diamonds seems like an idea to go for!

Have you considered second hand? That really could be the way for you to go for increased size but not increasing your budget.

Another option is to go for a yellow sapphire versus a diamond. Yes, they look different but that would work in your budget while fitting your size criteria.

Im open to preloved but I rather save extra ££ for a yellow diamond rather than a sapphire, as even if i got a sapphire ring....a couple of months down the line il want a yellow diamond again.

But thanks for the idea!

:( David dosnt have anything in my budget at the moment.

Oooolala on the Dover. Not a pear, of course.......
