Hi all,
I recently started a thread on a different topic regarding my newly acquired diamond, and I''d like to thank everyone who contributed to it. Now I have another another question. My stone has very tiny few feathers (four or five) and am not particularly worried about most of them (the stone is of VS2 clarity), except for one. This one is also still tiny, does not even extend the breadth of the upper girdle facet, however it does break the surface and extends from the crown to the pavilion. On the GIA cert attached, you can see it at the 8.30 o''clock position. There is another tinier feather on the left which also exends the crown to the pavilion but does not really bother me (i''ve seen both under a scope).
My questions are: where should I ask a jeweler to place the prongs so as to minimise the risk of this feather being extended / stone being damaged from an external blow (for eg if I hit my hand against a hard surface)? I was thinking maybe having a double claw-prong and positioning this feather in between the two claws. However, I am concerned that the feather adjacent to this one would then be under one of the claws and IT may get affected from the pressure exerted by the setter.
I''ve read many threads on PS regarding feathers, inclg. the one currently running, but think my question is slightly different. If there is already a thread on this particular issue, pls let me know.
Thank you.
