I apologize in advance-- I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseum and I've read a bunch of the articles and prior posts already.

Any advice on the below diagrams from an AGS diamond would be great.

Other than these two feathers which extend to the surface, I am in love with the diamond- perfect symmetry/heart&arrows/color F

The clarity assigned was VS1 --

What would you guys do about these feathers? Walk away? How is the diamond oriented in each diagram- IE are these feathers the same from the top and bottom? How do they flip the diamond in the pictures-- horizontally or vertically.

Its at the high end of my budget and I'm willing to compromise for the F/VS1/H&A.

Thanks, you guys are so helpful.

It's very unlikely that there would be a durability issue with this clarity grade. Have the gemologist evaluate the stone for piece of mind.

Thanks-

One of the gemologists I spoke with said something similar-- and also that the diagram is not in '3d' so even if it extends to the edge in the picture it may not mean its to the surface. Waiting for more details.

My pear is VS2, clarified that way because of feathering at the top edge of the table towards the point end. The feathering was tiny (notice I say "was") but significant enought of be a VS2 on a D colour diamond. Personally, I couldn't see it AT ALL without a x30 loupe - it just looked like a cloudy, greasy spot under magnification. Long story short, at some point recently I bashed the edge of the diamond & the weak feathering chipped out

I have had the edge if the diamond polished smooth by a local jeweller & the happy outcome is that I now have a D colour, flawless diamond :D
I was extremely worried, but was assured by my jeweller that there would be no repercussions of the chip, i.e. the structure of the rest of the diamond is sound. So if your jeweller says it is nothing to worry a out, then don't worry :))

the 3 feathers are conslidated around the same location. diamond diagram is flipped horizontally.

In an AGS VS1 it should not be any sort of issue. Significant feathers can cause a diamond to drop to I1 clarity or lower if they threaten durability.

Remember that this diamond was sawed, bruted and polished. It's high points of stress and pressure have passed. Diamonds undergo so much friction that they turn white-hot on the polishing wheel. Normal wear will not even come close to what it has already been through.

With that said, every diamond has natural cleavage planes. I suggest for everyone to verify that your diamond is covered by the seller while being set, and have a good insurance policy for daily wear. A knock the wrong way - by you or someone else - can cause any diamond to chip or incur damage. That's why insurance is a good idea for the most flawless diamond, just as it is for your car.

Thank you all for your advice-

I ended up passing on the stone. At the end of the day, going 3k over my budget and still having an uncomfortable feeling made me nervous. The search continues! :)
