C and I picked up some favors and vases over the weekend that was filled with much stress. The thermostat blew in his car when we were about half through a 2 hour trip, so instead of taking 2 hours it took 8 hours with all the stopping and letting the car cool off. We left at 8:30 am and arrived at 3:30 pm. But we survived, it was a good test to undergo prior to getting married, that''s for sure. It helped that the two friends with us were great about the whole situation as well. We left his car at our destination though, and rented a car to come back to our base.
Anyway, some of you may remember, we''re stationed in Korea, we''ve been here almost exactly five months (as of the 10th!!!!!) and our time will be up after a year, so in June. So we wanted to incorporate a couple of Korean wedding traditions into our wedding, if they''d fit. The first is the Korean wedding ducks. When a couple gets married they get a set of large wooden ducks, one representing the bride, the other the groom. They display the ducks and if they are displayed facing each other then the couple is happy, if they are away from each other the couple is fighting. So we bought enough teeny wedding ducks to give one to each guest. They were only $1 each, so even if most people just throw them away or leave them it''ll be ok. I plan on putting an explanation in the program as well.
Then I got a set of wedding vases to possibly use for the the centerpieces to hold the flowers. I''m going to try to do practice flowers, even with fake flowers, to see how they''ll look before making a decision to buy enough for every table (I was going to put one on each table, not one set on each table). The vase with the rounded top represents the man, with the rounded bottom the woman. Then the cranes sympolize long life together or something, and the flower pattern symbolizes happiness. I thought that we could give vases to people that helped out after the wedding was over as well. And I''ll put descriptions/info in the program as well, so people understand the significance. The table cloths/napkins will be ivory/cream, so I picked the ivory vases.
