Favorite side stones for a Cushion ER?

Hi All!! Sooo, here is the lowdown... I supplied my FF with a picture of one of Leon's 3 stone Rings as the inspiration for my engagement ring...He has received quotes from both Leon and ERD, and while he is not supplying me with the deets, lets just say I know more "than I should"....any-who, Leon quoted him the ring with Bullets, and Mark quoted him for shields...clearly, these two are different?? I think I would be happy with either, but wanted your honest opinion...what do you think would look best next to a 2.5 carat cushion? I have been scouring the internet and have uncovered that there are two types of "shields"?? Step cut and regular shields, and they LOOK DIFFERENT!! I don't know which one's Mark means, and I can't ASK my FF, because he doesn't know I know this level of detail, its sort of a covert operation on my end...would appreciate your help please?? Any pics, opinions?? I know the ring will be beautiful, but this is a VERY LARGE investment, I want it to be perfect.
 
I think all of those options would look great-it depends on what you like best.
 
A Vintage cushion with rounded edges is best suited by rounded bullets not sharp edged shields IMO. http://www.artofplatinum.com/portfolio/details.php?image_id=268&mode=search

I would trust Leon's eye for proportions, choosing side stones, claw prongs, and delicacy of refinement of a setting over most others. If the prices are similar it would be a very easy choice for me. ;))
 
Chunky- I agree with you...Leon's original design shows BULLETS, so I am not sure how Mark thought they were Shields?? AND I don't know how I could bring this up with the FF, cause he has no idea I know about this... any thoughts of how I could just casually bring this up??

Well I would probably phrase it as my dream ring is a Leon and the inspiration picture I sent you. There are very few jewelers who can copy his designs with the same level of refinement and you hope he will take this into account. :mrgreen: (Do this while smiling).

On the other hand just between you and me Mark's jeweler does excellent work as well and my wife is pretty happy with her ring so keep that in mind just in case he has already proceeded.
 
Haha...Thanks, Chunky...I actually feel better knowing that your wife's ring is from Mark's Jeweler, I hear his work is beautiful...I think either way I will be in good hands...I appreciate the feedback.

I actually asked a similar question a few days back re what type of side stones would work best with a 2-2.5 cushion. I have always loved trillions, but most PS'ers advised me that those would contrast too sharply. Someone posted the first link that CCL posted for you and I'm definitely looking into that! I'm sure your FF will come through for you and you will be thrilled with your beautiful ER!

Looks like we may have similar rings- I can't wait for us to share! I think based on the pic, the Cushion looks more modified a opposed to an Antique cut, and is defintely a tighter ratio, because its more square, I am guessing a 1.00-1.05. But CCL would know better than I!
 
Can you print out a copy of the picture and state a few time how much you like the way the "BULLETS" look
with the cushion..."BULLETS" are such a cool shape...I really like the way "BULLETS" look. Yes, go on and on
about "BULLETS" so its stuck in his mind and in the process you might want to tell him whether you like step-cut
bullets or regular bullets.

Tyty- yes, I love it...reinforcement...I just need to be selective as to when I bring this up, as my FF isn't as obssessed with the Diamond Convo the way I am...I could talk "shop" all day...lol! :naughty:

Really tough picture to tell, but it certainly has a moderate crown height from the profile shot so it will be a modern cutting style. From the front near the culet it looks like a 4 main and from the small virtual facets it is likely a cushion modified brilliant. However its a photograph to show the setting not the diamond so I'd want better shots to confirm.
