Faceting Question

I am new to faceting, have some good equipment and a couple of books/courses, trying to learn how to dop a stone. I am using an alcohol lamp and black dop wax. Apparently, I am not getting a good set as when I start to facet the stone falls off. If you have experience in this area, please provide some tips or tricks that I can try. If you live in the Philadelphia, PA area please email me if you would be willing to show me the ropes.
