I need some help with this one....

Is there a noticable difference in color in a F vs. G colored stone? Face up vs. side view (if the diamond is set in platinum).

Can someone please post pics of the two color grades for comparison?

Thanks in advance!

In a well-cut round, I would say no difference for almost everyone... some will be able to pick it out side-by-side.

There really isn''t. If you were looking at an F and a G, side by side, on a piece of white paper, you could tell from the bottom and sides, and maaaaaaaybe from the top. Once set, you''ll never notice the difference.

I have a G (in my avatar) and it looks nothing but white, even from the sides.

G all the way, it''s cheaper and still very very white!

Apples to apples (GIA/AGS reports) the difference should be subtle, if noticable at all. But if you're comparing diamonds that were graded by less consistent/less strict labs there may be more variation.

The G colored diamond was graded by GIA. Here''s all the info I have on the stone...

Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.47 - 7.56 x 4.50 mm
Carat Weight: 1.53
Color Grade: G
Clarity Grade: VS2
Proportions:
Depth: 59.9 %
Table: 57 %
Girdle: Thin to Medium, Faceted
Culet: Very Small
Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None

do you have crown and pavillion angles, we need these to fully evaluate the stone.

Nope, this is all the specs that I have - from the GIA cert.

Well, if you''re buying in person there''s nothing that stands out as bad about the stone so if you like it that''s awesome.

However, if you''re buying online, I would strongly urge that you either:

1. Get the Crown & Pavilion angles, so we can help you predict the light return, AND an idealscope image (which is an image of the diamonds light return)

OR

2. Only buy a AGS Hearts & Arrows (some cites that carry em are Whiteflash, goodoldgold, and James Allen). All of those stones are in the top 5% ish of stones out there and so if you''re not that nitpicky...you could just buy one of those without knowing the above information.

I would ask the vendor if they can provide them for you with a SARIN and if they can also give you an image of the stone and an ideal scope or asset image.

There are not many who could distinguish between the two.

I have a GIA G 1.4 and I don''t see anything.
