What does "eye clean" mean? How does it factor into buying a diamon?

It means you cannot see inclusions with the naked eye.

Further precise meaning of this is a subject of much discussion.

A search here will turn up many threads.

Different vendors have different definitions. One vendor may say it is eye-clean if there are no visible inclusions from 6 inches away, another may say from 12 inches away, etc.

Important thing to communicate is your expectations to the seller... what eye-clean means to you.

Ditto - eyeclean means whatever it means the way you define it. Decide what that means - 10"? 5"? Arm's length? Face-up, from all angles? - to you, and ask your vendor if a given stone meets your requirements

if you don't have your own definition most vendors will use the term "eyeclean" to mean something by their own definitions, and that will vary by vendor.

vs2 will be the best choice for eye-clean. SI1/2 might or might not be eye clean. For me, I''ve never seen an eye-clean SI1/2

totally eyeclean face-up is doable but from all angles... one in a million!

And if I did see a totally eyeclean from all angles SI2 - especially one larger than say 3/4ct - I would worry that the clouds, or whatever the inclusions are, are hurting the brilliance of the stone.
