Hi Everyone,

I was hoping that someone would offer an opinion on the following cut:

Shape: Round Brilliant
Table: 56.1
Crown Angle: 33.9
Pavilion Angle: 40.9
Pavilion Depth: 43.1
Depth: 61.0
Crown Height: 14.7
Star Facet: 52
Girdle: 0.99 - 3.5 f
Culet: Pointed
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal

I''ve looked up various proportion tables, but I''m wondering if someone could guesstimate performance based on more factors than HCA. I can''t find a match on GemAdvisor free version.

Thank you so much!

Happy Thanksgiving!

forgot measurements:

6.56 - 6.61 - 4.02 mm

Have you got an IS image? It falls just on the edge of AGS ideal and is GIA excellent, so should be a nice stone. But we would need a IS or ASET image to further evaluate.

Looks good so far though

If this is a GIA girdle measurement the range is extremely wide. I'm guessing it's an AGS measurement because they treat things a bit differently...0.99-3.5 will be thin-medium in their metric. The 'ideal' finish nomenclature is another indication of an AGS report (although there are several labs using that word). Is it a document with a light performance grade?

The basic numbers look promising. However, there are 57 facets on the diamond and the performance is dependent on how they work together. For example, your crown and pavilion angle numbers are just the average of 8 measurements, as is star length. The lower half number (absent) is an average of 16 measurements.

The HCA also says it looks promising, but remember the HCA is a rejection tool. More information is needed for a decisive prediction. If there is no light performance grade on the report a reflector image would be useful - either ideal-scope or ASET. That will reveal how consistent the cutting is, as well as verifying the level of light return.

Wow - thank you for your prompt replies!

Yes, it is an AGS Lab report.

It includes:

Light performance 0
Proportion factors 0
Finish 0

. . . how does AGS determine these factors? Do they use something like ideal-scope/ASET?

I did "hear" your advice tho'', and I realize that it''s best to see for myself with ideal-scope or ASET.

Thank you much!

Cool. That is a significant detail and top performance indicator.

Yes. In fact AGS introduced ASET; based on studies that have existed and evolved since the 1980s. Their light performance grade is based on ASET theory - not just face up but at several tilts and levels of obstruction. The proportions factors grade has to do with durability and weight ratio. The finish grades are evaluations of craftsmanship.

Looking good. I'm still curious about the lower halves from a gathering-data standpoint. For this combination of angles they will typically be around 80%, which is great.

Hi John,

That was great information - thanks!

Lower half is 77 ;)

Going by what you have shared, I''m feeling better about this stone all the time :)

Happy Holidays!

You mentioned the AGS lab report :

Light performance 0
Proportion factors 0
Finish 0

Is this a separate report from the main one and is it usually included?

Thanks

The AGS Lab is one place that grades diamonds. Other labs are GIA, EGL, IGI... They all provide "main" reports.

Example of the most common AGS report: http://www.agslab.com/product_diamond_quality_document.php

I don''t know if I am answering your question properly?

You guys ROCK, lol.

To bananaboy:

The light performance etc. was provided on the AGS report - see the upper right corner of the example for which John gave the link. I''ve noticed that not all diamond sellers show this info in their online AGS report scans, they seem to crop that side.

Thanks again!

Happy Holidays again!
