@Pomelo Anymore news on your amazing jadeite ring? I can’t wait to see what name you pick!!!!

Sorry no, I haven’t got round to dropping her off at the lab yet. I’ve been rounding up all my loose stones and reset projects so I’ll make a day of it rather than take several trips (they’re all in the same location).

Not gonna lie, I’m also a little bit scared of the outcome (seeing as my emerald cab came out a minor to moderate hardened resin!).

Gosh you still have tiny babies! My boys loved to grab at my bling when they were little too. They are giants now — teenagers and 6’1” and 6’5”! They still like bling. My older one wants diamond studs and my younger asked for a pearl necklace last Christmas and wears it daily lol.

Haha I love that your boys like bling!! We have a thread that’s called “men in pearls” or something like that!

Out of interest, do they know / want to learn how to distinguish between good and bad quality diamonds and pearls etc?

No not at all lol. Every once in a while the older one will ask a question about such things but I think my eagerness to answer might deter him lol. But mostly it’s purely fashion to them and not at all an intellectual enterprise. Also I would not buy them anything real or expensive at this point given their propensity to lose things. I wish they wanted to learn about it! But at least they like style. I was sad about not having daughters and missing out on sharing that with my kids but my boys have turned out to be very interested in grooming (hair and skin care etc) and fashion and recently thrift store shopping for clothes and of course they want many accessories like bracelets and necklaces (chains, pearls) so that’s really fun. I’m happy to help them develop their personal style. They are much more adventurous than boys were when I was a teen.

Oh I’m having that experience too! Mine is a teen so I’m careful about what I buy him for school. This morning he requested Pokemon sailing shorts and swim shirt. His sports gear bag for school is a giant pink strawberry. He and his friend group bring plush toys to school and sit them on their desks during various subjects.

Hubby who attended the same school says you would have become a social outcast if you tried to do that in the 90s.

Kiddo loves gems and rock specimens! Has a whole display of them. I know my little treasures will be in good hands. That’s part of the reason why I want to buy such big stones, so he can unmount them one day and keep them as rocks. I’ll take a picture of his Christmas present when green comes up in the rainbow thread. It’s a beauty!

I was offered a 40 carat very very very faint pink sapphire that I didn’t buy. He would have loved it but I tested it on a bunch of people and too many said “white” so I let it go. He was one of the few who said pink and he loved it so much. I feel kinda bad about that…..,,,

@mellowyellowgirl Love your story about your son. When I was an undergrad. I was always the well-behaved, excellent student but I hated rules. The exam rules were all Dont’s but there was no rule against taking soft toys into the exams, so that’s what I did. I got a bunch of friends to do so too :D The professors were so amused :D
