Hello PS. I''m so sorry to be a constant bother. But I''m getting much closer to the ring of choice. I''ve been talk to a few people and i''m looking for some thought.

This is the person i''ve been talking to. Priced me at $185 for a blue topaz 1.5 carat. And $325 for a 1 carat sapphire or $265 for 1/2 carat. What do you think? I know the blue topaz is fragile. But would it be ok with this style of ring? or should i do the sapphire. What kind of wedding band do you put with these rings?

Thanks!

Hi - I love that style of hammered, bezel-set ring. I''d get sapphire rather than topaz for durability. I''d have the vendor make a matching hammered wedding band in gold. Here is an example of the look in sterling.

I''m a little confused. The first picture is a hammered style bezel with a blue sapphire and the second is similar except for the stone being a round white sapphire. I don''t think a topaz is considered fragile but is a decent stone. However, topaz doesn''t have a good rep, so to speak, with it being well known to be heavily treated (irradiated). Traditionalists usually prefer blue sapphire as a e-ring stone.

I think the sapphire will be even more heavily treated than the topaz. At $150 for a 1 carat blue, I would say it was very likely BE treated. Based on the photo, I would also say it is quite dark.

So, I would guess that, treatment wise, both are heavily treated. From a durability point of view, sapphire wins (although it may be brittle from over treatment) and, from a beauty point of view, I would say topaz, since dark sapphires are (in my point of view), boring.

Which, of course, brings it to a draw.

Does the vendor work with client sourced stones? If so, I would look into buying a well cut spinel and sending it along. It shouldn''t be a lot more expensive and would look much better.
