Hi all,

I am looking to buy an engagement diamond from Eternity Diamond - 2.24 carat, J, SI2, H&A, and have 2 questions.

a) Has anyone used Eternity Diamond? How reliable is it?
b) What do you think of the stone? Please find attached the certificate.

As this is my first time buying diamond, your opinion would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome! I've only used Eternity for settings, and loved them. They do great work.

Have you checked if the diamond is eye clean?

Thanks for your reply and glad that you have had a positive experience. I am checking with the vendor now on whether it is eye clean. The vendor said it is H&A, but I don't see it in the AGS cert. Am I missing something?

AGS does not grade H&A. the only way to know if it is H&A is to have a hearts image.

Thanks - so based on the image on the cert, do you think it is a H&A?

no way to tell based on the image given...that image will not tell you about H&A.

So, what image should I get to see the H&A quality?

You will need to request a hearts image and I'm not certain if Eternity provides IS or hearts images.

All we know based on the cert is that it has ideal light performance.

Thanks for your reply. Have now requested the IS/Hearts image.

Regarding the ASET image on the cert, do you see any issue with that? It seems like it is not the perfect image that I saw in other stones - the left top corner seems irregular? What does it imply in such ASET image?

I think you've overthinking it. The ASET on the certificate is just a computer generated ASET. It will be a beautiful stone since it's an AGS ideal cut with ideal light performance.

The jeweler just replied and confirmed that it is eye-clean. Please see the ASET image below. Do you think it is possible that even though the inclusion is in the center, yet it is eye-clean? What other support do you think I should get from the vendor before making my final call?

did you ask at what distance the diamond is eye-clean? another option is to get it shipped to you before you get it set and make sure it is eye-clean before proceeding with setting...if not you can always return and start over.

I would definitely spend the $$ to have it shipped to you for your approval before you purchase it and have it shipped. Everyone's definition of eye clean is a little different.

Thanks! Let me ask the jeweler on the distance question then.

Please find attached the heart picture.

The vendor has confirmed that the stone is eye clean from 3 - 5
inches away. He also noted that you wont see anything in sunlight
either to the naked eye.

Based on these, do you think it is a good buy?

That stone is not H&A and I would not pay the premium associated with H&A stones for that particular stone. Is a H&A diamond important to you?

Agreed with the above post. If it's priced very well, then I'd buy it. If it's priced high (aka priced for a hearts and arrows diamond) then I would not.

Some people care about having a hearts and arrows stone, and others don't want to pay the premium for one.

Thanks for your kind comments. It has been priced at 16000. It seems low for an H&A. But would you mind telling me why this is not a H&A? How do I look for such clue?

Another one is currently of interest is this:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-I1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1107215.asp

It is a 1.5 carat for only 7000 probably because of its low clarity of I1.

If I am to set it for engagement ring, which one would you recommend?

is this for you or are you purchasing for someone else? if you are purchasing for someone else I would try to find out what is important to the wearer...clarity? color? size?

That stone has uneven hearts and some have clefts. To see a good example of a H&A look at GOG, WF ACA, BGD Signature, or Crafted by Infinity. H&A does not mean the stone will have better performance just a higher level of cut precision.

I'm not an expert on the current prices, but $16,000 for a 2.2 carat seems pretty low!

I have a 1.81 round AGS ideal cut and while it's not a precise hearts and arrows stone, it's still very gorgeous. I didn't pay the hearts and arrows price tag because I didn't really care about having that.

Thanks for the comment - yes, I am shopping for myself and that size and clarity would be the most important.

Another thing I want to ask is whether the inclusion right in the center of the stone (the 2.24 carat one) would make the stone less brilliant even though it is AGS 0? I have been receiving mixed messages from different jewellers... which evidence (AGS 0 or inclusion on the side) is more important when determining the brilliance or fire of a stone?

Thanks,
Rhoda

What exactly are the jewelers telling you? Cut has the most influence on a diamond's brilliance... clarity, not so much. There are some I1s where the inclusion can be hidden under a prong, and nobody's the wiser, and no negative affect on the sparkliness of the diamond. As long as the stone is eye clean to your specifications, I don't think you'll notice any lack of brilliance.

One thing you could do is buy the stone and have it shipped to you unset. Then you can take it wherever you like and compare to other diamonds. See if the inclusion bothers you and see for yourself that the diamond is just as brilliant as others of the same cut caliber.
