I received the first CADs from ERD.

This is the setting I originally was set on.

And the ring from which I borrowed the petal basket idea from

I think it's a good start, but I want to make some changes. Firstly the halo needs to be more scalloped to achieve the floral look of the Daussi. Also, does the halo seem small relative to the rest of the ring?

Let me know what you think.

I am guessing you want the halo stone sizes to be the same as the rest of the stones on the shank? The petal idea is really pretty and the scalloped halo is very very nice too. Great custom setting idea!

Personally I don't think the halo looks small. I think if you went any larger it would look off and detract from your center stone. Ratios are so important as it can go classy to trashy very quickly.

In regards to the petals does the middle one look off center to you? I would ask about that. Perhaps it was done on purpose but I would want a more even look.

I'm also not a fan of the floral scalloped edge look so personally I would leave it. Has your intended seen it? Does she like that specific ring? If she does then go with it. But I think it is iffy as it takes away from the classic look of the halo- down the road I feel the scalloping could make the ring look dated. But that is just my .02cents. Besides that I think it is beautiful! I love the halos done by ERD and have been super impressed with them on PS and in person.

He has another post all about the inspiration ring. She really likes it and the scalloped look

I went back and read your original thread about the ring your GF likes. I think that in the CADs the melee in the halo are too small and that is part of the reason that it is not achieving the scalloped look. I think you should send him the photo of the ring charmypoo posted in your first thread. Since you are not creating the scallop with the metal semi-bezel of sorts that appear around each stone in your inspiration ring, I think the only other way to do it here is to do it with larger melee relative to the center stone. This should give it more of a floral look. To be honest, I think that creating the scallop using the diamonds as opposed to metal is much prettier and more elegant anyway!

Re: the profile, to me the lotus looks a bit more like a flame or a fire in the CAD. I'm not sure how to fix that. Maybe someone else has better input on that. Maybe have the petals come together at the bottom and fan outward instead of having all 3 petals separated? I think Leon Mege makes a lotus ring - perhaps look at that for an idea???

I dont mind the way the scalloping is done by Daussi. If they could recreate that I'd be fine with it. As far as the petals, maybe with the larger melee will widen the halo a little and enable the petals to 'fan' out a little wider. I dont mind them as they are though, and I rather like that the center one isnt identical to the others.

I like the underside of the halo, its to mimic the one from that PS'ers ring and IRL that turned out beautiful. The other ring had 3 stones in it though yours looks like it only has 2, or am i wrong?

I thought I would post a few other settings so you can see other ways to make a ring look like a flower

I think I am going to have them address the scalloped floral look of course, but also 'boaden' the halo and basket so the petals fan out more as well.

Are there designers out there that can custom make this ring hand made? Obviously I am committed to working with ERD now, but I wonder if its possible or a better idea to have a ring like this hand made. I am a little concerned that I wont get the floral look I am after.

Someone will have to tell you who is more informed but I think ERD does both cad/ cast and hand made

I would really agree with having it looks like that shared prong one charmiepoo posted on your first or second page of your last thread. Very floral but not bogged down with a lot of metal.
Maybe just a consideration.

Don't get discouraged...it's the first round of CADS and I would continue with ERD. If you look at ERDs website, they have several scalloped rings. They kmow how to do it. Just communicate the changes and give them a chance to achieve your vision.

I agree. I think you should try to communicate your changes to ERD then get another round of CADs. The custom design process takes a lot of work no matter which way you proceed (CAD, hand forged etc). Also just as a side note a hand forged custom setting will be a great deal more expensive. Of course it depends on who you would use but I would imagine that a hand forged setting with that much diamond work will cost at least 5k to 6k or more just for the setting.

+1

If they were meant to be perfect the first time they wouldnt review them with you, they would just send it to production.

Don't get me wrong, I am confident in Mark and ERD I was more just inquiring about handmade in general I guess. I am not going to go anywhere else unless we simply cant get the CAD right, but I dont see that happening.

Anyway what do you all think of the scalloping on the band itself on the Daussi ring as opposed to the smooth shank on the CAD?

I like the shank in the cad a lot better. A lot more delicate an light. The other seems heavy.

My personal preference is the CAD as is ... I like the petal detail with the centre one slightly off - seems more organic than a rigid upright petal; I like the melee on the shank and it looks perfect, IMO; and the halo as is seems just as perfect as the scalloped one, but my taste leans to cleaner lines.

You have some beautiful inspirational pieces and I think ERD has certainly captured those elements in this CAD. Minor tweaks if anything but I love it as it is!

My original cads arent working and I cant edit, so here are the first round of CADs:

I went back to ERD because I was still set on a more floral halo from the Daussi cushion. I also asked them to 'widen' the basket a bit. This is the result:

Definitely making progress. I like the new halo and I like how it is incorporating the scalloped floral shape of the Daussi. However I think I prefer the shank a little more tucked in under the halo, and I think the new CADs have too much 'open' space under the halo, so I am going to ask them to tuck the shank under the halo a bit more and 'fan out' the petals toward the shank.

Thoughts?

Can you reupload the pictures? They seem to have been removed. Make sure the vendor name is not visible in your CADs.

yeah looks like they are being sticklers abou the CADs you posted. Maybe just crop them out? I can wait to see the next round :naughty:

I dont know why they are removing pictures of CADs but allow the Daussi pic to stay. Maybe a mod can clean this thread up by deleting those two posts.

Anyway, here are the original CADS:

The second cad looks a lot closer to your vision. I agree they should tuck the shank back under the halo and spread the pedals out. Also I would see if they could tilt the halo slightly. That's really the only thing I see.

When you widened the space between the halo stones, you took a bit of the cushion shape away from the overall halo. I wasn't sure if you had noticed that and wanted to bring it up.
